It's time to nerf bayonet damage.

I know this isn't a popular subject nor will my stance be on the subject but it's completely necessary.

The fact that bayonets do a massive amount of damage to where they can one-shot or two-shot almost every target shows for a lack of melee skill. All it takes is for one mistake in the melee game of a swordsman or axeman to die, where as any person used a bayonet against a sword or axe, or even a club can make many mistakes and laugh off the damage.

Not to mention they have significant reach to almost every other weapon.


I believe the Bayonet needs a significant damage nerf, or there needs to be a buff to most other melee weapons to justify the damage.

bayonets are fine and swords and axes had 4 ways to attack and are faster then a bayonet all weapon are pretty balanced at this point in the game

I wouldn't expect an update to the current system any time soon; FSE have BCoF to work on now, and as far as I remember(?) they have said there won't be anymore updates to Napoleonic Wars.

I think the damage is fine.

I dislike how fast you can dance and prance around and spin, but i guess realism isn't the goal.

For a realistic approach i think you'd have slower thrusts and slower turning, to make a sort of clunky heavy bayonet fight which is still deadly. Bayonets in NW currently make you feel like a shaolin monks.

Hopefully in BCoF they will make the melee combat more sluggish and implement some kind of stamina system.
They should also make it so when you stab someone in the belly the bayonet get stuck for a second before you pull it out.

At the end of the day this game isn't a realistic melee combat simulator and I wouldn't want it to be, it is a skill based game and saying you would like to slow down the combat would change the entire game and in my opinion for the worst.

Also I have personally seen it take 5 hits to down a dude, nerfing the damage would make the melee boring I suggest playing on some more combat orientated servers to increase your blocking skills.
