It is the law in the US. I have no clue in New Zeland. But here you cannot just simply copy and paste and claim its yours. You could go to jail.

Actually you are not. The Copyright act of 1994 is in New Zeleand. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_law_of_New_Zealand

It is still very wrong to take others work, weather in use or not.
