Honestly I think it'an interesting mechanic. As said above you can definitely use pokes to your advantage so if you work them into your melee technique I don't see why they're a bad thing. Are they frustraing? Yes. But they do happen to everyone so I think the best thing to do is just learn how to use them against your foe and hope you don't fight someone that has also mastered it!

Pokes are random as fuck. The only ones that make sense are from far as fuck away. If I stab you in your face you shouldn’t be able to absorb the hit into your cheek. Try to range all you want but you’ll still poke on the perfect backstab, the perfect chamber, on a kick, or an easy footlance. It’s just luck.

Pokes makes no sense unless you are far away, when you are up close it doesnt make sense. Nw people have noodle arms no strength in your stabs up close.

If you consistently poke on a far backstab is it really rng? Also if you stab someone point blank with no momentum how do you expect to pierce there clothing? It's all about getting as close as possible to there musket when they stab to make it glance.
