I've always wanted to do it, talked about the specific CSGO style Swiss/Buchholz as well but as Chainsor mentioned its just hard to implement in a way people accept.
When I first mentioned doing it for Season 9 of RGL the first thing people asked for is extra upper/lower brackets that make the format completely redundant, because they want the best chances of winning something or feeling "competitive", than having actually interesting matchups, tournament storylines etc. Like Blitz said, its just struggle of NW. People complain about the change then they complain about being bored.
Although I will add, it does make sense for people to have this viewpoint. Its not like CSGO where its 5 salaried players per team, we are all here on our free time, hundreds of people. So why would you spend your free time doing something stressful thats not as rewarding?
When I talked about doing those groupfight leagues under the Swiss/Buchholz with move ups and downs, relegations etc (ECS). I didn't bother going through with it because EGS is essentially a watered down version of it and didn't make sense to have two going at the same time(s). But if done properly with real continuity it could have been cool I reckon. I can't speak for the GF scene anymore because I'm not involved but its just too far gone for that in the regiment scene. Would have been amazing back in NWL days with 36+ regiments.
