May I suggest you make a separate part for historic ranks, ones that wont necessary be needed but just there for people to use for research...

I am not going to, but if someone wants to make a new thread, do it, if you'd like

Cpt-Lt, other way around. A temporary position, so the colonel would lead that company until said person was promoted.

If you want, I have the ranks in the British Royal Navy :D

Officers
Captain
Commander (keep in mind they were technically lower ranked Captains, they commanded ships considered too small for captains)
Lieutenant
Midshipman
Officer Cadet

NCO's
Warrant Officer
Chief Petty officer
Petty Officer

Enlisted
Leading Rate
Able Seaman

But then again keep in mind that the ranks in the Royal Navy don't have a equivalent one in the army. They are all indepedent.

No offense, but I don't really think these ranks are napoleonic era accurate, E.g: where is bosum?
Also, when I did a bit of research for british naval ranks, I never saw Chief Petty officer amongst them.

Are you sure these ranks are napoleonic? They look more modern.

Officer cadet?

Intresting fact is that Midshipmen were apparantly written down as the captain's servants...

To restate what I said in the other thread:

I wish to register twocomplaints!

First of all, the UK cavalry NCO-ranks should be the same as for the infantry, the only ones to use Corporal of Horse and the variations thereof were the household cavalry.

Secondly, the translation/explanation of CdB for the French should be liuetenant colonel, because they had thesame job; leading batallions.

(Major should still rank above CdB though)

If so, would you consider Major to be on the same level as Colonel?

I don't quite wrap my head around it.

The whole business of major/chef de Battalion is really old. A chef de battalion would, if you transfer the rank to British, be a lieutenant-colonel, which would make him outrank a major... Though I've seen enough examples of CdB being translated as Major.
