Which form of government do you prefer?
« on: March 04, 2015, 08:42:06 pm »
There was a poll about the preferred form of rule some time ago with around 50 possible options to choose. Therefore I did not find it very informative.
So I decided to make a new one but this time about the preferred type of government, split into republics and monarchies.
Use this thread to discuss or tell me if I forgot any option.

Note: This poll is not about the form of rule, just about the type of government you think works generally the best. Also the options are based upon the existing forms of government, so no communism, tribal government or anything.

My country is a constitutional monarchy in theory but a parliamentary system in practice. France, Italy, Poland and Russia all are semi-presidential systems yet are politically nothing alike. What a system is called barely gives you information about what it really is.

Feudal Japan or No government or DPRK style of government with more food, more energy and more running water.
Massive job loss will take place, but if left allowed to, the market will adapt. I just don't want my job to be taken away from me, tbh.

As far as I know the Netherlands are a parliamentary (which necessarily means constitutional) monarchy.

I don't know what to say about eastern Europe.

But the question is what you think works (or could work) best. I know that republic and monarchy are neutral terms but the type of government says a lot about a country. But I agree, it is kind of hazy.
The problem is if you talk about the "real" form of rule, that the definitions are not very clear and there would be arguments about which form of rule a country would have.

The options I made available are clear and understandable even though they are very theoretical.

Parliamentary constitutial monarchy. The monarch is in theory part of the government, but has zero influence or political power. Monarch more for PR and diplomacy. And, to the contrary of what people think are profitable for the country.

Let me just add that my preferred form would be a hierarchy, with partial parliamentary and constitutional backing.
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

A republic (under what ideology it falls into is another story) with a president who can check the power and corruptibility of a Senate or Congress sounds the best in theory but we can see it beginning to fail in the West.
Fuck off, Nazi scum

... asked the American.

Democracy is no type of government but a form of sovereignty. That's what Duuring meant.

much lolz. what about fucking Greece xD democracy IS a form of government. Why not "Democratic Republic" as an option? Why is it ONLY republic and monarch as if those are the only 2 general types of governments xD

In the modern definition (and I'm just translating German words here and am mainly referring to Karl Löwenstein) you have the different forms of government that are shown above in the poll.

Then there are so called forms of rule, for example Democracy, Dictatorship, Oligarchy, Theocracy and so on. These are used to define the concrete conditions in a country.

There are only republics and monarchies because these are the only two forms of government that are existent nowadays. I also wrote this in the first post.
