Just out of curiosity, why do you use 1st/2nd Lt instead of Ensign/Lieutenant

Well, about the best reason I can give is... that's the way (uh huh uh huh) we like it. We had a vote a few months ago to switch to that system and the staff decided they liked the Lieutenants better. Plus at the time we formed the regiment, as a rifle unit,  those ranks would have been accurate. Just never changed that when we reformed to foot.
