Horses should always be treated carefully, even if trained for "battle" situations. For the sake of the rider, the surrounding people and most of all, the horse, one should never forget that a horse is not a toy.

Which is why I always get mixed feelings when people tell me they'd 'love to' do cavalry as soon as they can pay it, while they often lack any experience. I mean, you don't need a lot of it. A half year to a year doesn't make you a star rider, but it gives you enough feedback whether being a cavalry re-enactor is something for you.

Hm, give us a hint Duuring. Were you wearing a shako or some other kind of headgear?

Edit: Does anyone know where one can obtain a US WWII greatcoat?

It was hilarious, they came "galloping" pass us singing, they're Polish and hadn't paid the tax to get their horses into Germany, so they improvised xD

There's a bad side to the story. The horses didn't went trough not because of tax but because the administration wasn't done properly.
When people realized there was only a limited amount of horses, people just started bidding - 530 is a confirmed price, but I heard rumors of 800 euros.

Btw, Kitty, I was indeed in a French regiment, but I left that a month ago. I'm now only a member of my cavalry group, and I joined the Landwehr group for just this event, although I might be joining them.
