Le mapping thread.
« on: January 23, 2013, 01:03:07 am »
Well seeing as I've now taken up mapping for the team I thought I might start a mapping thread, a good place to post all maps you've made or host for the mod and are working on.

I'm currently making the Battle of Ntombe, though it is very much a Work in progress. It is intended as a very brutal siege, the Zulu can reach the laager very quickly and the British have very little time to stand to.

The Battle of Ntombe map is about finished, will hopefully have it on a server tomorrow. Though that would be for pvp siege, not even touched the AI mesh yet.

I'm thinking of applying myself to making a map for invasion-esque events (Ex: 24th Art of Defense), but I'm not too sharp on pathing the AI, anyone know how to do this?

Sorting out the AI mesh is very easy, some tutorials about in the mapping subforum.

I've all but finished that Ntombe map and have started on something else which is staying secret for now but it will be coming hand in hand to create one ridiculously fun (hopefully) event. And it will just be used for events, it will be useless in public servers...

AI mesh is pretty easy. It's like dot-to-dot but less fun.

James told me to tell you it's almost finished but not quite. He's muted for a while.

By James Grant:
The Battle of Ntombe (sometimes spelt Intombe) was a small engagement fought on the 12th of March 1879 between a company of the 80th Staffordshire Regiment and a warband of the Renegade Swazi Prince Mbilini waMswati. On route to Khambula the British convoy decided to laager their wagons in a V formation facing East. In a miscommunication one company of the 80th had earlier been sent back to Luneberg leaving a lone company in extremely hostile territory, on the night of the 12th Prince Mbilini attacked and massacred the unprepared British defenders save for a small amount laagered on the opposite bank. I have taken some artistic license with this map in that the convoy was substantially larger, the river deeper at the drift and the terrain in general much flatter. The British must defend the Laager as best they can but the Zulu have a very short distance to get there, reflecting the surprise attack initiated. A small amount of British will spawn on the far bank, slightly raised above the laager with the opportunity to put some effective fire on the Zulu flanks, unbeknownst to these few a smaller more dangerous crossing exists downstream and it would not be out of character for the Zulu's to take advantage of this.

Only if the Zulu fought more like this, they may have beaten the Brits out of Zululand.
