Double-barrelled weapons have existed since at least the 17th century.

They have Remington Rolling Blocks as well as Chassepots. 4 Hats 4 tops 4 pants makes for a lot of variety. If i give them shotguns their weapons will have to be randomised to stop shotgun spam.

I for one would love to see a crapload of variety in the French partisans/rebels/Communards, give them something special like two-barreled shotguns (Did those exist yet?) or a chance to spawn with an item that can create a makeshift barricade. I'm making my map with the rebels in mind, lot's of buildings to hide and shoot the advancing enemy from and such.
They had double-barreled shotguns in N&S.
I agree that it would be pretty nice if the rebels could spawn with a random weapon.
Here's some that came in mind.

Standard musket pistol
Chassepot carbine
Double-barreled shotgun
Some kind of hunting rifle
Blunderbuss
Farming tools
Industrial tools
Crappy homemade rifle or pistol

They were actually pretty well armed, they formed around shooting clubs and were armed by the government as well. They mostly used chassepots and remingtons, they had some spencer repeaters as well but I don't want to make them hugely OP with shotguns and repeaters.

Honestly, I'd go fo historical accuracy with this one. If it's possible to edit the chance of a weapon sapwning do so. Make shotguns and repeaters far less then a regular chassepot musket.

Double-barreled Shotgun: 5%
Spencer Repeater: 10%
Chassepot Musket: 70%
Remington Revolver: 15%

Or, you could simply make it selectable.

You can't change the chances it just goes off how many options there are, but even then it's wildly unpredictable. If you give them a chance of 2 different items it's not uncommon to see 95% with one of the items and 5% with the other and then the next time the other way around. If it was selectable you'd have an army with repeaters and it would like WW1. It's not the remington revolver by the way, it's this.

Quote
During the Franco-Prussian War, France acquired 210,000 Rolling Block rifles to make up for a shortage of the standard-issue Chassepot.[1]

and when?
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Havana_(1870)

This is just one example :)
"I challenge you to a battle!"
"Right on, I'll meet you on the waves!"
"...About that, tomorrow would be better, I'm kinda busy..."
"Oh, alright, that'll work too."

And then the battle happens and they just basically slap eachother. ;D

EDIT. Also more pics on the map. Added a small tunnel.

Really nice map :)
Although it would be a slaughter for the attackers, asuming they are coming from the other side of the river. Maybe add some trenches for the attackers to hide in before the arty breech the fort walls.

Small update, i've been working on non visual stuff mostly.

Prussian Hussar. Hussars have a carbine now so they're sort of like dragoons but they will be balanced to the dragoons.
Spoiler

I didn't feel like making a proper image, this is the Remington Rolling block rifle and the double barreled shotgun, both used by they French partisans. Yes it's the same shotgun from AZW but i made it longer.

Nice update!
Will the shotgun have as much spread as in AZW or will you change it up?

I don't know what settings it has in AZW, but i've given it 8 bullets with a wide spread and short distance. Most complains about shotgun type weapons come from units using them on horseback, but it's a foot unit which gets it so it should be okay.

Would people prefer Uhlans or Currassiers for the Prussians?
