Yeh there isnt much stealth in this. The other side will hear a bunch of whistles and then a wave of troops coming at them.

More than a half year too early, Wismar. Still the July Crisis isn't 100 years ago yet.

EDIT: But, goddamn. My great-grandfathers participated in it. The first (big) modern war, and it's so long ago. You're right.

Conquest would be the best for the type of playstyle that IE promotes and some CTF would be Interesting. Although a Siege event would be absolutely fan damn tastic.

Personally as a Smaller regiment i think that finding events is going to be hard, with the server files being private alot of events might be filled if you have no connections. although i still look forward to some fun action.
Being a small regiment (keep in mind, the term "small" is greatly changed for this type of warfare) is going to be harder all around. One good volley with these industrialized weapons in a charge, goodbye! Use those big regs as the good ol' human meat shield

It's the opposite man, why do you think the smallest combat formation was a company in 1914, while in 1918 it was a squad?

It's simpler and more succesful to move a small group of soldiers using infiltration tactics rather than relying on numbers and just move them across no-mans-land. I think it will be much easier for small regiments in IE than it is in NW, as long as they adapt, which they hopefully will unless they are commanded by a 12 year old.

I agree with you, a squad of 4-8 men should easily be able to move the frontlines a few kilometers more compared to an entire regiment or even an entire division.

Trust me, they would get wiped out in 3 seconds if they were ambushed.

They'd be wiped out no matter what.

Instead you could just put in a ball, some football animations and let us play footie right in the middle of the no-man's-land.  :P

So when it comes to WW1 shooters people always say it will be a massacre, you'll be shot instantly, and so it won't be fun.

But they're wrong. Because, in WW1 there was a large amount of troops going over a smaller area of land, so the cover spots are taken and the rest are left in the open to get shot, targets were abundant for the defenders. The difference for a game like this is where you might have had 500 attackers in reality, it will be 100 at the most in game, so there will be more available cover. The maps aren't just flat open ground, even no mans land was full of shell holes and left over junk, so with a smaller group, it just becomes more like a regular battle field. WW1 assaults did prove to be more effective when they sent less attackers than sending massive human waves, and IE will be like that.

Would be really interesting if anyone tried to use the "creeping barrage" tactics.

Spoiler
Quote
The creeping barrage was an artillery tactic developed by the British army during ww1. The idea was that shelling would progress across no mans land to the enemy tembisa whilst the soldiers followed the shell fire across no mans land at a safe distance. This was a revolutionary tactic that mean that the Germans had no time to come out of there dugouts after a shelling before the British and allied soldiers overran them.

This tactic effectivey broke the stalemate that had developed in trench warfare as previously the shell attacks would stop before the British attacking force even got out of there trenches meaning they were still in no mans land when the Germans left the shelter of their dugouts and had manned the defences, thus making it very hard for the allies to take an enemy trench.

Big regiments with say an infantry division and an artillery one will for sure. I know I will, at least  ;)

I'm not sure it will work as good as the real thing. People won't care that much about all of the explosions around them unless it's inches away.
