It's indeed a pain in the ass. The French don't really have a lot of data about their military between 1820 and 1914 in general ESP when it comes to information about units. And if there is, it's mostly in French.

To the guy who posted above me, I doubt that's the information he actually meant. I presume Men is on to the actuall regimental histories.

There's a few links and references which cover the information, however neither side has a great deal regarding their regimental histories, not compared to the British.

The Prussians have much more info then the Frenchies you can easily see that on the OOB page. Lots of info on the units.

I've found theres more information available for French uniforms and equipment than Prussian, i had to guess a little for some uniforms, or go off how other units had things. You can find ranker uniforms if you look but finding sergeants and officers can be difficult or impossible.

Here are some of the main sources i used.

I was having trouble finding information about my regiment as well. The only thing I knew about them was what nation they were from and what side they fought for. I ended up finding a German Wikipedia article on them, but if Google translate didn't exist, well...

Its also very hard to find pictures of our regiment in real life since it wasn't really known, only a few pictures in WW1 and in the 1790s, but nothing on their uniforms during the 1870s, which is annoying seeing all the other regiments with all these pictures depicting their regiment in firefights and shit, lol.

Uniforms generally stayed the same between this war and 1914 for the french.
