They were hussars, but in one battle(Wagram?), they raped lancers and took their weapons Thats why they became "Szwoleżerowie(huss) -Lansjerzy(lancers). IMO the best lancers of 1st Empire, but we can say that u re regiment just before Wagram! ^,^
Yeah, there was an incident at Wagram where the Polish Guard Lighthorse fought against the Schwarzenburg Uhlans ( A regiment predominantly made from Poles living in Austria ). It was the bloodiest Cavalry vs. Cavalry battle the Lighthorse ( And later lancers ) ever engaged in. They even suffered less casualties fighting the Prussian Guard Cavalry regiment.
However the Lancer did not use the Schwarzenburg Uhlans' lances since the fanions on the lances were of black-yellow colors, the colors of the Austrian empire and i doubt Napoleon would approve of them carrying them around.
However later he gave the Guard Lighthorse their lances afterwards with a fanion in the color of the Polish flag. From then on they were known as the Guard Lighthorse-Lancers. One of the few regiments of the Napoleonic wars who remained undefeated throughout its existance.
