Nearly 3 years are behind me with this community. It's been nice a lot, it's been less nice now and then.
I have stopped playing NW for some time now, and I have found the forums becoming less appealing that it did before.
I am not by far pleased with the way this forum is moderated, as I have, sometimes not in the right way, mentioned now and then:
If moderators are trying to make smart and funny remarks in their warning messages, and when they (to my personal feelings) slap a warning of mute on every post which is not entirely friendly, or with nearly every reported post, then I think my time here is done.
And, when the larger part of the community gets punished for what the, though very present, minority has done or is doing....
It must be said though, we LET that minority get the upper hand in ruining the community: Reacting to overly obvious trolls, going along with arguments, and not having the guts to admot you are wrong... I have given it time to heal on itself, but it has not happened, unfortunately.
There are of course, moderators who do give room for the people that want to enjoy a healthy discussion, and only intervene when it is truly needed, but when I see that a political thread has been locked, and I look back to the last 10 pages... Yes, I do see some posts which aren't nice, and could be experienced as offensive, but not by far a reason to lock a proper discussion with the nicer part of the community. And no, it is not only the moderation, although they might look into the reasons for locking, warning and banning a bit more carefully, the largest portion is still with the members itself. Why report that? Is it so hard to accept it's the internet and that you can get your feelings hurt? You will get that in real life, only chances are you won't have a moderator nearby....
So, this is what I think is wrong in here. Usually, I would offer some solutions, and although I will offer just one, it's up to the community to improve these forums...
my idea
It will a a quite drastic change of the entire forums:
- Keep the Community and general discussion boards of both games, they will be moderated by the moderators as we know them now.
- In the community section, let the community make their own sub-forums. Let people be the moderators for their own suv-forum, only without warning and banning powers. If they would want someone banned, an appeal should be made to the head mods.
This way, if people don't like the attitude on one forum, they can go to the other... And no, this is not perfect, yes, this might cause populariy contests, but at least give the community a chance to make this a better community.
I do not say I think this is the best idea, but I won't throw away my standards, even when I leave this... place.
