The duchy of Avanir is a large independant holding, owned by Duke Althalus, in far to the west of Calradia. It's a lush land of forests and plains, with some of the best farmland in all of the world. The land was once owned by strange creatures, rumored to be elves, before they left the land for good.
It was originally settled by Swadians in the time of the Empire. When the Southern Rivers dried up, the Duchy lost contact with their Swadian lords. Several years later, they seceded altogether and have been independent since.
Almost 200 years later, the Swadians attempted to retake their old land, using the trade routes that had since been opened. They found that the Duchy had enveloped several Vaegir and Nord settlements in the region, and had rapidly expanded into a cuntry that dwarfed modern Swadia, being almost on third the size of Calradia. The Swadian army also found themselves facing the Avani Guard, a well organsed, versatile, and skilled force.
Because of the huge disadvantages they faced - Outnumbered, outgunned, and outmaneuvered - the Swadian army was destroyed, almost to the last man. The Duchy then realized that Calradia was ripe for picking, and began their recent expansion in that direction. Duke Althalus has devoted the majority of his time to this campaign, and the Avani forces have begun clashing with Calradian forces.
Ducal Family
The Avan family are the descendants of old Swadian settlers that left calradia at approximately the time the first Swadian Empire was forming. They established the Duchy, and were under the indirect rule of the Swadian Empire for a time.

Duke Althalus Avan - Lord Protector of the Duchy of Avanir. By all accounts a fair man, although sometimes demanding of his vassals. A dark-haired man, still in his prime at the age of 26 years of age. He ascended the throne at the age of 22, after his father had been killed by bandits during a hunt.

Titles of Nobility
Duke - The lord of Avanir. None may ever reach this rank aside from him and his heirs.
Marquess - The closest advisers to the Duke. Don't hold much personal land, but many of the Baronets, Barons, and Viscounts are their sworn Bannermen.
Earl - A large landowner. Often a man that has proven himself time and again to the Duke.
Viscount - A trusted vassal, usually holds a management position in the Government.
Baron - A relatively small landowner. Still a man of influence.
Baronet - Usually a Knight that has become invaluable to the Duke. The only non-hereditary Noble rank.
Knight - Usually a guard member that has proven himself worthy. Maintains their previous rank in the guard.
About the guard.
We are a group of hardened soldiers. Our duty is to protect Commoners from bandits, robbers, murderers, and persecution by Factions. By keeping a solid command chain and a strong sense of duty, we "Protect and Serve" the good people of the server. We are also the army of the Duchy of Avanir, and we fight to protect its name, land, and wealth.
We mainly play on the EUA server. However, we play on numerous other servers, depending on the day.
Ranks within the Guard
OfficersCommander - The overall leader of the Guard.
Captain - Second in command to the Commander.
Lieutenant - The officer that bears most of the work of the Guard.
StaffSergeant - In charge of units within the Guard
Corporal - Second in command of units within the Guard
Bannerman - No real authority over a guard. Simply carries the banner.
Soldiers of the WatchGuard / Sharpshooter - Elite units, senior to other soldiers. Proven as tough, reliable, and honorable.
Footman / Ranger - Reliable, honorable and skilled soldiers.
Militia / Skirmisher - Newer soldiers, they have proven themselves worthy of full Guard membership.
Recruit - The newest soldiers in the Guard, have not yet proven themselves worthy of full membership
Specialist UnitsDoctor - The healer of the Guard
Engineer - The weapons Supplier and Field Engineer of the Guard.
Labourer - The backbone of the Duchy's economy. These men labour hard to bring goods and wealth to the Guard and the Duchy.

Why join the guard?
As a member of the guard, you will be part of an accepting Roleplay community. In-game, you will enforce the laws of the server, and keep the peace. There is also a wage for upkeep, depending on the commander at the time.
