Yeah definitely.
Regiments can split into two lines. 00th used to do it.
The thing about splitting into two lines, is that either:
1) The commander has split the two lines and is commanding them as one cohesive unit in teamspeak (Which is complicated as hell)
or
2) The commander has split his regiment into two groups, and put the second group into a separate channel (which gets messy when everyone starts dying and you have to combine the two lines into one).
Either way, I've always stated that Regiments should be rewarded for making complex formations and maneuvers,
as long as the spacing stays to half a man, and that it looks presentable and not some half-assed gobbledegook clumb of humanity .Hence, the "Thunder-V" formation, seen here in 2011:
