When we meet up we should all be in full gear with bed rolls and knapsacks and our rifles. gotta look bad ass for the public.
Of course, I also think lines should be able to move in double rank without having emotional breakdowns.

Ladies love Campaigner more than a farb. They cant hold themselves when they see our rugged, muddy stained trouser and dusty coat and our dramatic face of victory.

Quote
In July 1863
A nation torn in tragedy
A trick of fate,Two great armies merge
Gods of war at Gettysburg
Devastation lies ahead
50,000 bodies litter the land
Hell rages three full days
The reaper sows, there's the devil to pay

The pressure's on and the reb's attack
The yanks must hold, They can't fall back
Just two brigades, 2000 strong
Against 20,000 they can't hold long

General Reynolds makes his way
Expect no mercy from the iron brigade
Until he shows they're on their own
But Buford's men have a will of stone

Bayonets gleam in the morning sun
Smoke and fire belching from their guns
Another volley and again they strike
Thousands more comin' down the Chambersburg pike...

I will be at the BGA event for my first reenactment. Only problem is I don't think I will be able to find some size 17 boots before then.  :'(

Hopefully I don't get too many dirty looks for wearing more modern boots.
If someone has a giant problem with it, hopefully they can lend me a pair of size 17 era boots.  :P

I am working to order a pair of boots but there was no way that they could have come in before Gettysburg even if I ordered them as soon as i knew I was going. My Captain also advised against purchasing my own gear before I really got into the hobby and made sure I enjoyed it. I think I will really enjoy it tough.

No, it is an infantry regiment, so if they didn't wear boots just substitute whatever footwear they actually used.

I contemplated going barefoot for the event since it could actually be realistic and so I wouldn't stick out so much.
I don't think my feet are tough enough to handle that however.

I heard a rumour ACW re-enactors at Gettysburg were transported from the camp to the battlesite by touring bus. If that's true, you don't need your shoes :P

(Seriously though, get some footwear. If you don't, I can 99% assure you you'll step on something sharp or burning which will ruin your event.)

Speaking about shoes, I actually still need to order a pair of them for my hussar impression...

The regiment was never supplied with hussarboots until after the Waterloo campaign. And even then, boots were officially only part of paradedress. Weird, I know. We wear high shoes instead.

That's going to be very uncomfortable on horseback; nothing to protect your calves and what not.

That's why you have campaign overalls with leather. And when you don't wear that one, you are either not on horseback (stabledress) or in paradedress, where you wear boots.
