Spoiler
Due to alot of controversy, we need to discuss the pros and cons of WSE2, start discussing! The resulting discussion will affect the outcome of its introduction or banning.
I'll make it simple
Pros:
More stable smoother game (though after now trying it, not a big deal)
Cons:
FoV Slider (able to see a foot behind you, obviously advantageous and no one can deny that)
Banner Viewing (not entirely relevant but allows for line-ups)
Potential hidden 'heal' commands which don't get added to logs (unknown, but Flashkodr mentioned that you are able to send the server commands to heal players etc discreetly)
Somewhere in between:
Improved hitbox registry (does something where you're less likely to TK due to some ragdoll stuff)
Solution:
WSE2 was recently updated and a server-side FoV lock is in place, this will mitigate the most major issue with WSE2, if that doesn't work then just ban it.
The game is massively improved with WSE2. The
game breaking teleportation glitch is removed with the client (where you teleport with frame caps above 150) which is essential for people with higher hz monitors, as otherwise they would be forced to play with their non-native hz rate, which is a massive quality downgrade and can introduce input lag.
Chuck vid Example with Chuckster but this applies to any fps over 150.
Apart from that, the huge fps boost from WSE2 helps people with mid-low tier PCs to achieve that minimum 144 fps, which is useful for any competitive event. Obviously a collection of anecdotes, but getting sent so many messages on steam on how the client has helped people with their game lag, it seems it will only help the competitive scene for this game and try to keep it more fun.
WSE2's FOV slider is obviously the biggest upset that comes with the client. However, I still believe the advantages of the FOV slider are being overexaggerated. Personally, I play on default fov and hear from a lot of top players on how the FOV slider has minimal impact, except in rotations(still minor as you get the same effect from angling yourself properly).
Bannerviewing? If anything, this would seriously inhibit your ability to play as you would be seeing the enemy's banners during any sort of melee (open melee, close rotation switches). Potential hidden heal commands? This seems like bullshit and would need a followup.
Improved hitbox registry is also a miss as people have plenty of teamkills with the client or miss stabs while people are stunned or any other base game breaking glitches. Sideblock glitches and no animation stabs still exist within the client as well.
Regarding the FOV Slider, I have also found some quite interesting information.
Remembering back to watching a 3kliksphilip video
3KLIKS . Warband's FOV system is identical in that the FOV is calculated through the value of the base FOV along with the aspect ratio of the resolution you play with.
https://youtu.be/frsp7VIKTuY?t=97 You can see how playing at a resolution of 1920x540 grants you a massive field of view advantage. Playing on a
resolution of 1920x800 is equivalent to playing on 1920x1080 with the fov slider set to 90This is also on the
default steam game.1920x1080 with Default FOV
1920x800 with Default FOV
The FOVs were customised using them from a texture pack, which was the most common way people had an FOV slider. It was literally in a 92nd texture pack.
As you can all see, the use of a simple resolution change(done with either CRU or through your graphics panel settings) grants you a greater advantage, as it only eliminates your vertical vision (which has almost no utility in NW anyway) and doesn't introduce a weird distortion on your screen.
In the end, the solution is already here with Gibby's 50 euro modification to WSE2. However, if it doesn't function correctly, then it seems the only valid options would be to straight up allow it or introduce a poll for the players to decide.
