I think that the chat was convient at the top while IRC has yet to gain members. I'm going to try and use it, after all; not all video game companies allow you such freedom on their websites.

Join the shoutbox sometime and keep it in a tab, let's grow it. I like the IRC commands much better.

I like IRC chats more as well, but that is not the sole reason we removed shoutbox.

1. It was being abused by people who were muted or even banned.
2. It is a difficult thing to moderate properly, lacking any form of logs and was not synced to forum bans/mutes.
3. It lacked professionalism for a site that belongs to a gaming development company.

I am sorry guys, but I do not believe the shoutbox will be returning to this forum. I would highly encourage you to check out IRC, and idle in it. People who idle tend to get a lot more interaction with other people, including administrators and developers, than those who come on, ask if anyone is on, waits 5 seconds, and leaves.

While you are correct in some fashion, the reason that shoutbox differentiates between the forums is that it was the very first thing people saw when coming onto here. And to be honest, I never wanted what they saw there to represent this forum, it simply was not worthy of that. It was pushed in their face, where as to find silliness in a thread they would have to at least have some interest in looking there.
