Really interested in getting involved in Airsoft, any tips for an Airsoft noob about the best things to buy for my first event?

An electric gun! Springs are fine and all, but if you're going to a place (like the one I go to...) where people take their airsoft very seriously. You will regret it if you don't have one. A decent low-price AEG can be found on Amazon.com for any where from $30-$60.
I don't trust anything but pizza from a pizza place.

Konig summarized it pretty well, and at your first event you'll be nervous at first but just remain calm and do your best and above all have fun ;)

I've never been able to handle Bullpup models. Something about their ergonomy. Give me a good M4 anyday. :)

I also have no affinity for bullpups. I don't feel like they are balanced.

Illegal.
It is getting legalised though. Just hang on.

Even then, I don't have a social life. Which is kinda of necessary to play.
