Tale of a soldier [Forum game]

I've seen this done on the TW forum and I haven't yet seen it on this forum so here it goes. How it goes is I will start the story off and then each person adds a few words to the story and we see where it goes from here.

This story will be about Jean-Claude Morreau (Jean for short) a French light infantryman and his struggles
