Cannon/building hitboxes and player hitboxes are 2 completely different things.

Having decent melee will make or break the game for most long time community members. Immersion is great and all, but in MP using a really slow gun will only keep it the "immersion" fun for a relatively short period of time. Aka chivalry shit.

What we need to remeber is that chivalry had melee as the absolute main feature, and is covering a period where around 90 precent of deaths was cause by hand to hand combat, while in this period only 2 procent was caused by hand to hand fighting. I know its a game so it doesnt need to be 100% accurate, but unlike NW, shooting is going to make a big difference on the battlefiled. Its a civil war game we want right? With melee as one of the features, not more importent then the others, but as part of the game.

A lot of people don't seem to realize that the muskets from the ACW where rifled and so a lot more accurate than the muskets in the NW. Charging over an open field with a line of soldiers aiming at you and your fellow soldiers is survivable in NW, but if you did that during the ACW, you were dead meat for sure.

All that being said, Melee will be very similar to what NW/Warband has + some added functionality.
So no need to worry about that.

It is already implemented, only thing it is lacking right now is some proper hit detection, but that is being worked on... It will be all ready and done for Alpha.

About Rifles and Muskets, as I said, we will be posting a blog about that soon.
