Rocroi (1643).

A Spanish tercio held off repeated French assaults for several hours. They were offered the surrender terms that would ordinarily be given to a fortress under siege. Sure, they survived, but that's one good fight there.

Part of me is ever so grateful that Thermopylae hasn't been mentioned.

Thermopylae was a good last stand but there are plenty of other good ones that overshadow it.

You're joking right?

Thermopylae should never be considered a good last stand given that it could have easily been a Greek victory if Leonidas hadn't of cocked up so royally. If he'd placed less faith in the half-arsed predictions of Oracles (who were known to be bribed and manipulated into positive or negative predictions) and spared a few of his own men to oversee the Phocians guarding the Anopaea Pass then they could have easily held the line.
