Right, so the Americans are keen on their right to own guns to possibly revolt against their government?

So you're telling me you guys think you actually stand a chance against SWAT teams with tanks, nationals guardists and a shitton of other soldiers the government has lying around?

So much for a realistic view....
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

I talked to a guy from South Carolina once, and he was convinced that civilians should be able to buy every sort of weaponry available to the US Armed Forces, just so that they could rebel against it, should the need arise. Yes, I'm talking tanks, helicopters and cluster bombs.

Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, the only guys getting killed by guns are criminals shooting criminals. I luv my nation.

No, it's because Dutch people make it a habit of not regularly shooting cops and each other.

Americans should try it.

I'm not gonna post anymore guys, I need to go unload my 75 rnd drum into some cops. Be back later!

But seriously, there is a gun problem here. It's not a good idea if I can own up 8 guns...

And why shouldn't I be able to own as many guns as I damn well please?

That's a pretyy stupid argument isn't it?

I mean yeah let's just completely marginalize the fact that these are incredibly dangerous pieces of technology that were solely designed to take other humans lives, and that just a slight mis-use or mistake can lead to extreme consequences.

I've seen a lot of good debate about gun control, but the "IT'S MAH RIGHTS I WANT AS MANY GUNS AS I CAN GET BECAUSE I WANT THEM YUH HUR?" is pretty startling autistic.

Correct me, but it sounds like you haven't been raised around guns, am I right? Nor does it seem like you personally own a gun. I make these assumptions because you seem to think the reason people own guns is to only kill another human being, for whatever reason that may be. Yes, a gun can be used to harm someone, and yes they are used for that on some occasions. But completely dismissing the hunting, recreational shooting, etc communities is not right. What about the people who simply own guns to collect? What about the people that require guns to live off the land? What about the people who shoot guns at competitions or go to the range to fire off a few boxes of rounds for sport? Calling a gun an "incredibly dangerous piece of technology" is making it sound like I'm holding a device that could vaporise an entire building with one pull of the trigger. Yes, it is a dangerous item, but it is a tool with many uses. Don't be scared of it, use safety measures, be gun smart, and you will be fine.

(Just gonna say this real quick. I would be in full support of mandatory gun safety training when a person first buys a gun. I think some states may already have laws pertaining to this. I know to get a hunting license that you have to go through courses. )

First you are wrong on both accounts, my Grandfather owned a large collection of guns and I was taught about how dangerous they were and how to be safe around them since I was a small child. and we were given them when he passed away.

You are misinterpreting my point. I am not saying there are not recreational uses of guns and I am not saying I think people shouldn't have them. What I am saying is that "I want my guns because" is a really fucking stupid argument. Regardless of what you believe it is very important to realize what the guns are capable of. The point that I think you are missing is that not everyone is like you; I'm sure you are a mature and responsible gun owner, but people are fucking stupid, the laws aren't made for the individual, they are made for the entire population.

And with that post you just proved that you've never handled a gun (not that it was ever that cryptic). Serious things? Really? Gun are fucking fun. They're hilarious. Many kids in America have shot a gun by age 10. In the south it's not uncommon for a child to receive a .22 rifle for his birthday, or for Christmas. Guns are not a serious matter here. Several of my friends have fond memories plinking with their .22s and shooting bottles and cans in their backyards as children. Not fun and adventurous my ass.

I'm just saying that I think it's wrong to influence a child's childhood with guns.

If they want guns it should be an adult decision.
Not that I think it's a decision citizens should be allowed to take at all.

I was raised around guns, own 8, and look at me! I'm still a democratic socialist!

Point is, America has too many guns and nothing will stop that.

Lol, that's funny because I was just thinking about this argument on my way home today. If you know anything about the American military, this argument is immediately rendered ridiculous.

First of all, the US Military is made up primarily of right wing, pro gun, small state politicals. The military is filled with people who dislike Obama, dislike liberals, dislike restrictive laws. They support grassroots militia movements. In fact, most militia movements in the US are filled with former military servicemen. The army breeds libertarianism and anti-statism. This goes for the police as well. In most areas of the country the police is filled with former military with right wing sympathies. The governement's "shitton of soldiers lying around" are actually nothing at all. They don't support the US government. A revolt against the US government would almost certainly be headed by the military.

Tanks, aircraft, drones? Really, even if there existed a remnant loyalist force with considerable armor and firepower, it would be useless against a traditional guerrilla movement. Guerrilla warfare is strictly characterized by a counterbalance to conventional military power. Rebellions don't fall to firepower. They never do - that's just not how it works.

In ROTC at least, at commissioning ceremonies , the graduates have to recite (and sign later on) an oath swearing and affirming that they would support and defend the Constitution of the US against any enemies, foreign AND domestic along with full allegiance to the same. I do not recall specifically a true and faithful allegiance to the President, they more or less emphasized allegiance to the Constitution (then you can dissect, does that mean if the president or senate encroaches on the 2nd amendment or any other part of the Constitution, that the military has the right to go against the President and rest of central government).

The 2nd amendment isn't in place for the sole enjoyment of gun collectors and 'doomsday preppers', as the media would have people believe. It's protects the rights of everyone, not 'gun nuts' and criminals. It guarantees us the right to bear arms in our own defense. It does not regard our right to hunting, or recreational shooting. Those are only secondary factors. We deserve the right to protect ourselves against people who want to hurt us, including the government. Funny how so many of the people protesting police brutality in the United States today are those so stringently opposed to gun rights. Shooting yourselves in the foot, almost literally at this point.

I probably should have touched on this in my last post. Yes, hunting and other recreational activities are secondary. American citisens have guns to protect themselves from the government, and if need be, overthrow it and install a new one. I was defending that guns aren't solely used for killing people and that there are many different types of gun owners that use guns as tools for different tasks, I.E. Hunting, recreational shooting, etc.

Forgive us for finding the 'gotta be able to take down the government!'-argumnent a bit... Redneck.

2nd amd. was written in a time the USA had no army while being surrounded by slightly aggressive European and Native states. It wasn't written to protect citizens, it was written to make sure the rich wouldn't have to be taxed to pay for a standing army.

What does it matter if it's 'redneck'? That's a bit of an arrogant aristocratic attitude, isn't it?

Why listen to them? They're just stupid rural folk. And they're poor while at it! HAHAhAHAHAHAHAHAH. Fetch me another cup of tea, Horatio, my dear friend.
