Traditionalism or Modernism?
« on: November 28, 2014, 05:52:47 pm »

A picture tells a thousand words.

...or in the modernist case; it requires a thousand words to describe the picture.

Yeah, political arguments on traditionalism vs modernism can get a bit messy.

Modernism doesn't exclude traditionalism. In the most topics I'm a traditionalist which does not mean I won't adapt to our modern society.

This sums me up well also.

“A man who has no conscience, no goodness, does not suffer.” - Khaled Hosseini

I like traditionalist art more, but I prefer modern architecture.

With no doubt traditionalism. In architecture it is hugely important to culture,  it also looks respectable. Why? Probably because those Who  were paying for the buildings were not Scrooge level of über greedy like most of them today, plus the current cultural status was not dragged out of the sewer!
For the ones paying for the building, modernism is just  a word for make it as cheap as possible, and for the architects it's a competition to be as unique and artsy as the can be. It is disgusting, and everyone who does not like it has to suffer for it, since nine out of ten buildings being build is modern, hope to god that will change

This thread would really fit having a poll.

thread is invalid.
Massive job loss will take place, but if left allowed to, the market will adapt. I just don't want my job to be taken away from me, tbh.

Hmm, the skill of thr architect has worn off a bit, in my opinion, there are barely any of the optical tricks left nowadays. But that was what made the traditional architecture so interesting, all the tricks and optical illusions to make a building perfect. Sad to see it's gone.
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

It's sad that these modern "architects" can make a box of glass and have it deemed modern and cool in today's world. I would be much more impressed by a large Greek revival house or maybe some nice Gothic cathedrals, etc.
