Graphics Cards Thread!
« on: April 21, 2014, 10:57:39 pm »
Since I'm getting a new graphics card soon I thought I might as well start a thread about them.

I currently have a GeForce GTS 250, which I've had since like 2008 (yeah, I know...). Whatch y'all got? Wish you had something different/more up to date?

I am actually getting the a new PC and I went for the 2GB AMD RADEON™ R9 270X - DVI, HDMI, DP - DX® 11, Eyefinity 4 Capable. Since the GTX version is much more money and only very little performance difference.

I can't stand AMD. It's a good cheaper card though.

Do you stand strongly to these? I'm looking to revamp a lot of my computer, some of it can be kept (the memory might need to be replaced though), but I also don't want to spend a small fortune. Also, the video card is unavailable on Newegg (only place I really shop for PC parts), and whenever it is it costs double the amount it should. Do you recommend any alternative to it?

Also, how's solidstate treating you? I guess you use it for your OS partition?

I've always used Geforce and I've never had a problem with them (unless it had problems caused elsewhere, ie. fucked power supply, overheating, out of date drivers, etc., and all of those were rare anyway).

I'd recommend going intel with nvidia and amd with amd to get the best performance. If you're on a budget you should do amd with intel.

GPU: GeForce GTX 770
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770 3.50GHz
Memory: 16 GB 1866 MHz RAM
OS: Windows 7 Professional
Power Supply: 650 Gold Standard Power Supply
Motherboard: Gigabyte Ultra durable motherboard
Storage: 2 TB 7200 RPM HDD

I choose to get this thing built online by cyberpowerPC and with the rebates and coupons I used it cost me less then it would to buy the parts individually. So win win for me.

I've saved like $200 to spend on a four day trip to Canada this week, so we'll see what I have after that. I have another $300 or so in savings but that's not really spendable at the moment, I've got to use it elsewhere. Maybe I can get an early b-day gift. idk.

I only have a Nvidia GTX 660 but it does me fine. I splashed out on two 120gb SSDs instead and was well worth the money. My only regret is going for a i5k instead of an i7 for my CPU  :'(

I have a Radeon 4600 HD. Yes, I know it's ancient. Saving monies for a new PC, as my CPU is just as embarrassing: Pentium E5200 Dual Core. Yep.

Nvidia Geforce GTX 760 is what I have. Works quite well but it needs a lot of power.
