Shogun 2 FOTS is pretty historically acurate :P (and I've done the research) But some officers will carry Katanas, some (like the imperial guard officer) will carry a western sabre, and the privates will carry a wakisashi.

Awesome, Great work on the research! I'm very much looking forward to see how the traditional units equipment will look and play. Will the Katanas be 2 handed or 1 handed? I'm guessing the Wakizashis would be 1 handed, but will there be a bayonet option for the japanese ranker?

The Katanas are a bit of both, I might add No-Dachis to one of the melee only classes depending on the balance. The modern Imperial troops use the Snider-Enfield rifle (a converted muzzle loaded rifle) which has a bayonet (the same as the other rifles in the mod), however the Japanese troops lack the bayonet as a side arm (which is something all western factions have) but that doesn't really matter. I was thinking of removing the wakisashi from the Imperial Guards and giving them a bayonet side arm instead...

It'd be best to let them keep the bayonet in my opinion.

if the Imperial Guard are armed as western infantry i'd probably go with your idea of omitting the sword for the Bayonet. Can't wait to see this all in game and in Events. I'll probably convince my Reg to change our name to a japanese regiment for this mod, although they dont share my enthusiasm for Imperial Japan.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the Imperial Guard use French Chassepots (as they did at the time)

Give at least some Imperial units a wakisashi. (They are still Japanese after all.)

This new map, called "Mountain Pass" will challenge you tactically. It forces you to use the terrain to survive; forget the high ground, as sharpshooters can easily pick you off from the trees, and make for the middle ground. But watch out for the middle of the pass, pop your head over too far and it'll make contact with the enemy's bullet. But remember to keep your bayonet handy when between the mountain tops.

Cavalry can be surprisingly effective on this map, despite the sloped ground they can maneuver quickly and capture strategic positions. You might also want to rethink your cavalry tactics here, charging infantry in the open can go either way in a fight, and charging the enemy in the trees is not going to look pretty in anyone's eyes. Think about dismounting and acting as a very mobile unit of light infantry.

Speaking of infantry. Elite and regular infantry will want to keep their lights and skirmishers alive, as they can offer good flanking support from either of the two mountains. Even artillery can offer fantastic support; you'll need a cleaver artillery officer to get you in the best positions to rain hell down upon the enemy.

Lovely looking map, can't wait to see the next one.

I really liked the Amsterdam one from the previous release. I don't suppose you can remake it and tone the canal stuff down for more concentrated urban alley fights?
