Régiment de dragons de l'Impératrice - 2e Escadron
The 2nd Squadron of the Empress Dragoons is a brand new cavalry regiment specialising in dragoons, formed after the 1er Carabiniers dissolving. Focused heavily upon flexibility, discipline and skill, this regiment has the ambition to set a new standard for dragoons; to lift the name out of the gutter and to show the community what they are capable of.
Historically speaking, dragoons have made an impact ever since they were reformed and made effective by Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden during the Thirty Years War. The ability to act as cavalry, as well as rapid insertion of infantry at critical points, have been key to many victories since the early 17th century. Armed with sabres, pistols, and carbines called dragons (hence, the name) and often given inferior, smaller horses, these troops were looked down upon by the rest of the army; to the cavalry they were upstarts with no nobility, to the infantry, they were glorified ne’er-do-wells with false pride. Nevertheless, the troop type proved effective, and no European army at the turn of the century lacked a dragoon regiment. At the time of the Napoleonic wars, the purpose of the dragoon had been slimmed and thinned into other types; most cavalrymen were now equipped with firearms, and technological advances lessened their impact as a dismounted force.
One of the most famous dragoon regiments of all time was raised in Napoleon Bonaparte’s reformation of the French Imperial Guard in 1806. Having seen the effectiveness of the line dragoon regiments in his campaigns east of the Rhine, the Emperor drafted some of the most experienced men from the Imperial Cavalry forces to form an imperial dragoon regiment - Régiment de Dragons de la Garde Impériale. Consisting of three squadrons of some of the most experienced, hardened horsemen available to France, these men were the elite. Napoleon’s wife took a liking to the imperial dragoons, and shortly after, she became their patroness; publically, these dashing cavalrymen became known as the Empress’ Dragoons.
Due to the variety of regiments portraying the Empress’ Dragoons in the past, we have decided to merely represent a single squadron – the second one. The regiment will remain heavily disproportionate to its historical size and be led by a Capitaine – Vander – with up to three sous-officiers to support him. However, the regiment will be centered on camaraderie and a bond between members, where rank is less relevant.
For historical accuracy’s sake, there is no recruit rank. The Empress Dragoons were veterans from other cavalry regiments coming together; thus, one can recognise the ‘recruit’ as simply dragoon. More experienced, devoted members will then follow a short chain of promotions, to Brigadier-Fourrier. A roster can be found on our teamspeak.
As the regiment is fresh, it is only signed up for one or two events; however, we predict to be participating in up to four a week, given that activity is high. Recruiting valuable, dependable people is thus encouraged, and those who do so efficiently will be amply rewarded.

We have very few, simple rules that must be followed at all times. Failure to comply with these rules despite repeated warnings will result in a kick, and for posterity’s sake, most likely a (lengthy) temporary ban from the Teamspeak as repercussion.
• We require discipline. Follow orders to the letter, comply with every event’s rules without exception and do not speak over a superior during a line battle.
• We require a certain amount of activity. Real life happens, nasty as it tends to be, and thus, there is no penalty for going ‘poof’ for a few weeks, as long as some manner of warning is given. It is otherwise expected of a regular dragoon to participate in two events a week; should one reach the ranks of Brigadier and above, between three and every event available is ideal.
• Harassment is not okay. Whilst it is expected that people can deal with or even appreciate a certain amount of banter, going out of your way to bring someone down or ruin their day is not allowed under any circumstance. That said, people are –supposed- to speak up if they feel that they are offended, or would like to bow out of a conversation. Not everyone may be an adult, but you should act as closely as possible to one.
• Be competitive. There is no need to be the best of all, or anything close to it. But constant practice can make someone damn near perfect – if not, then at least competent. Try to play cavalry as much as you can in your off time, exercise blocking, feinting, chambering with other members. Pointing and shooting isn’t a hassle, stabbing someone in the throat is.
• No trolling, or something. I don’t even.
