The regiment was created in 1811 when it was first commanded by Colonel William Charles Rousseau and in 1813 was commanded by Colonel Jean-Jacques Castanie, The regiment was disbanded in 1814 when Napoleon abdicated but was later reformed 1815 when it was commanded Colonel Guillaume-Joseph de Penguern.
In 1812 it took part in the Russian campaign where it fought in the battle of Krasnoe, Berezina and Wilna. In 1813 it was part of the German campaign where the regiment fought in the battle Dresden and Leipzig. In 1814 it was part of the French campaign where it took part in the battle of Brienne, Rothiere, Fere-Champenoise and Compiègneand finally the regiment was at The Battle of Waterloo.
