You are all judging gameplay before we have even seen any material on that, let alone even play.

Besides that, the game is set in the 1860s. Shooting is gonna be your main activity, a bayonet charge was not something done a lot in the ACW.

Just going to take this opportunity to remind people that the majority of this community (including myself) feel melee was by far the best gameplay aspect/mechanic of NW. I'm still concerned that if BCOF is too shooting-centric, a lot of people will not enjoy it.

Not saying we should throw out all historical accuracy, just that it should be considered.

I trust they will find a good balance (or at least find a way to make shootouts less tedious than NW).

The problem isn't it being too shooting centered, as it's obviously on its own engine. Warband's engine makes the 'shooting' mods horrid because in order for it to be fun you need both an abundance of people and large maps, so that it's more based on maneuvering (you know... tactics); the problem being the player counts are capped somewhat low and the large maps are still small- and it is still incredibly laggy under these circumstances.

If FSE are able to deliver on their 500 player count, and hopefully have large maps that offer plenty of opportunity for movement then I am sure melee will become an afterthought. Honestly, I can't see how people wouldn't prefer it to the spin 2 win "competitive" (lol) melee the engine has stuck us with.

Shooting doesn't work optimal in the Warband engine, it just doesn't.

I'm pretty sure weapons will be more accurate to reflect on ACW weapon standards, which will automatically make charging less effective. I very much doubt shooting will become more important then melee, though - With the far majority of weapons single-shot muskets, melee will still be the way to quickly gather kills  :P

As long as the BCoF melee system is properly functional and competitive, I'm sure enough people will give it a try.
Besides that, I think it's pretty obvious after 3 years of playing the same game you tend to get pretty bored of it. This could be a good refreshment for those who are getting bored or already stopped playing this DLC. But then again, it has to be done right.

The power of BCoF will probably, just like NW, lay with events as opposed to 'generic' multiplayer.

Blocking is for nannies, chambering is where it's at. And I complain about spin to win because it looks autistic as fuck, which seems to be a common thread in competitive anything.
