With the release of the NW module system, I will now carry out my promise to make a Zombie mod for NW.
I'll release two versions, a lite version and a normal version.

The Lite version will be NW compatible and a server-side mod only.
This will only include the switching of the teams and preventing of players rejoining the human side as well as forcing certain classes based on the team the players are in. (human or zombie)
The goal is to allow admins to turn this feature on or off and it will only work on TDM.

The full mod will be a stand alone mod, and use custom skins, custom music, sounds as well as custom gametypes.
For custom gametypes one could think of things like Zombie Escape from CSS but there will also be at least one new gametype. Which should be a bit more original, altough the concept is definitely  not new.



The plan is to first create the very basic mechanics. In other words, I'll first create most of the features of the lite version.
A list of things to do and it's progress

 Lite version: (Completely servers side) * On hold till Full is finished *

  • Switch players to the zombie team if they die as a human.  
  • Prohibit joining of the human team
  • Auto move all players in the game to the human team after 30 seconds. (Only counts when there are people in the server)
  • 10 seconds  after all players are forced into the human team, a random human gets switched to the zombie team.
  • Auto restart map or switch to the next one when all human players have been zombified.
  • Killed humans respawn on place of death as zombie. (for an example click here) (http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,247046.msg5919939.html#msg5919939)
  • Class re-balancing..
  • Item rebalancing..
  • Make the first zombie the "zombie lord" with increased stats.
  • If there is a large amount of players, more players are chosen to start as a zombie.
  • Make new setting options for servers. Like customizable time duration before everyone is switched to the human team, and then back to the zombie team. Aswell as the scaling factor of starting humans vs zombies. (This one will require the admin to use a small extra file, if the admin want's to use this feature.)
  • Add custom maps. (Feel free to make one and send it to me so I can check it out and perhaps add it in)

Also another thanks for everyone who played today!


There is a couple of things that I am still pondering on, so I decided to share them with everyone so that people can help me make the right choices!

1) Should I release the mod already, or wait?
 PROS: Playerbase would grow
 CONS: I am still going to add a lot of things like; gamemodes, textures, weapons and do a lot of rebalancing. This would mean that I would release patches quite often, which could be viewed as annoying.

2) How was the fog?
Naturally, it should be different per map and it will be, but I would like to know the opinions on the fog that we used today.

3) Ranged zombie?
 A variety of people suggested to add ranged attacks for zombies. This is because on some maps there is a lot of roofcamping which may seem hard to break. The only weapon that can effectively be used against this is the pike and that's quite a rare item.
Personally I am totally against the use of ranged attacks by zombies, so it would require some extreme persuasion skills to convince me otherwise.

4) Ammo, reload time
Should the Humans get more ammo ? Faster reload? Or perhaps less?

I was thinking of adding "ammo depots" where players could run to to get new human ammo, but that would not be fitting for all gamemodes. So I am planning on giving unlimited ammo on Zombie Escape, high ammo count on zombie panic but no way of refill, and refill  points on all other gamemodes.

I probably have more points, but I am gonna have dinner now so I will just leave you guys to ponder at these if you wish!

Actually, it does seem to be a "hack" that caused it. :P

The actual troop does not have access to the gun, so it won't randomly get it.

However, since Pride also had no fog. I am currently assuming that he had an outdated version where the zombies still had guns. Which allowed him to spawn with a gun.


Alternatively, there is something overriding the troop's items and I will have a look at that but I doubt it.


edit:
Don't think it's that, as I don't spawn him from his client. He would have no access to that, so nvm that!




My thanks goes out to Moogs, who has been secretly helping me out by coding some things in the past week, for joining the team!
He will be helping with programming aswell as desiging the game!

An example; a door with X amount of health stands along the path. Some of the humans will have to destroy it whilst others hold the zombies off.

- You could add a few choking points, like a bunch of doors in a hallway through which you need to go, but you'll have to destroy them.
- A gate opened by a winch, and you need to get to the winch in order to open the gate and proceed.
- A wall you need to blow up with a sapper's explosives?
- A small maze with sudden drops at dead ends or something.

Can't think of more atm, I might add some other stuff later :P

I have been checking the price of warband servers with FTP access lately, and if I do release it I will be able to pay for a server. But I can't say if it will be EU or US yet.

@maroon, some great suggestions that also sparked some more in my head. I will start working on a map and see what I can do. Then after playtesting it, more things can be added.

i know this is a bit old but how about "bonus" areas on a longer route so the humans can chose to spend more time getting better equipment(for example) so it's a git of a gamble, hurry but risk being easily killed or fight for longer with better equipment.

what i mean by a bonus area are supply dumps which have spare cartridges, weapon depots with better or special weapons (good swords or musketoons for example) and a well defensible area (with defenses, elevation and mini-cannons)

in fact you could almost make the last one of those (a defensible area) a separate idea as human players may want to use it as protection from  group of zombies but if they stay there too long they will give up any chance of getting out

I expect to be quite busy for a month probably a bit longer, but then some of my workflow should trickle back to this mod. Perhaps I can even get a scener in to help.

Installation Instructions:

0) Download the mod
1) Locate your installation folder for Warband. (Mine is here for example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\MountBlade Warband )
2) Browse to "modules" (So: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\MountBlade Warband\Modules )
3) Make a copy of your Napoleonic Wars module folder
4) rename it to NW Zombie Panic Dev
5) Unrar the mod files into that folder. It will ask if you want to overwrite files, you will answer "yes". If it doesn't ask for your files to be overwritten, you did something wrong and are pasting the folder inside the folder instead of the mod files.

Was fun! Website says there were 66 downloads, and on the server we had about 20 to 35 at most at some point.

I sadly only took one screen-shot and that was when we switched to an unknown map, which turned out to be a ridiculously silly map, and just made our own fortifications. Firing at any zombie-looking guy in the fog. Which sometimes turned out to be a wandering  human. :o

Was fun! Website says there were 66 downloads, and on the server we had about 20 to 35 at most at some point.

I am open to other suggestions, but I have been using filefront for a long time and haven't been able to find something better in a long time. :P
Also, I did have a backup download but that was on the K-KA teamspeak uploaded to a channel.

ps: Currently working on changing the team and troop select screens to make it more clear and also remove the problem with people trying to join the UK team all together. (Fools!)

I am fairly sure that I have given out the link to portugese and french people as well. And heard no complaint about not being able to download as far as I can remember.
