Title: Suggestions and feedback [v1.0 - v1.1]
Post by: Hinkel on July 06, 2015, 05:39:44 pm
Hey guys,

with the release of version 1.0 .. do you have any suggestions for an 1.1 update?
Any new features you would like to see? Or any annoying bugs and problems, which should get fixed?

Add more units to the foreign intervention. :o

Not sure if its a bug, but the 58th New York Infantry is only available in commander battle. It's not an option in TDM or battle.

Also: Maybe a new drumming animation, the current one looks really silly.  :P

About 15-20 units are locked to player regiments, which can be played, if you join the regiment.
Like the 58th New York is an exclusive unit, which you can play in TDM or battle, when you join the 58th New York.

In Commander Battle, you get just a preview to those regiments.

Same for the 1st Sharpshooters, 14th Brooklyn and such..

There are many units only available in custom battle. I believe the units not available for regular gameplay are regimental specific units that you need to be in the specific regiment to play.

In terms of suggestions? I like how it plays at the moment overall, although the Sharps are lacking any real use in CB that's an overall Warband/NW issue. Some more facial hair would be nice! Overall the revolvers seem a little underwhelming (even the big ole Dragoon) so it'd be nice to see them have a bit of a boost. The melee is really nice in the aspect that you don't (typically) get killed in one stab, but I notice that the bayonets seem to have a higher tendency to bounce.

That's all I can think of at the moment, most are personal preferences really.

Add Mexican Trumpeter too play the Mexican hat dance and the Alamo Theme. Also add a Banjo :P

But apart from that... nothing, it's all good!

Just a few things :P

- YES WE KNOW ABOUT THE BOTTLE! It's a feature...
- I did forget to add proper fife tunes to the Foreign fifer (it currently uses the default French ones from NW)
- All weapons were rebalanced, they had their lengths measured to their mesh lengths:
The bayonetted guns' lengths are slightly shorter than the mesh length, so the end of bayonet actually needs to enter the recipient's body a little before causing damage
- We know that cannons spawn sunk 2cm in the ground

Some more facial hair would be nice!
- have you seen how many facial hair options are available XD

Not sure if this has been noticed, but in the character creation the sliders don't match up to certain parts of faces; at least, my 0.5 face doesn't carry over (not counting the facial hair).

Everything is very good already :D But I guess if I have to I can put some things together and see :D :

- Maybe new units for the Foreign faction as been told by others. ( Doesn't have to be real much, just a little bit )
- Female death sounds? :D for female characters since it sounds so funny watching em die and scream as man lol
- Cowboy Class for the Union? That sort of Civilian we were talking about could be a cowboy as well and a normal civilian maybe, speaking of this maybe for all factions including the new Foreign one? Like every faction could have 2 sort of civilians, some sort of special one representing the faction's unique people, example : Union : 1 Civilian, 1 Cowboy class. Confederacy : 1 Civilian, 2 Rednecks maybe? lol. Foreign : 1 Civilian, 2 maybe Aristocrats or Lords, or maybe even King for Europe since it was common in Europe to have King.
- More (historical) generals for the Confederacy and the Union?

I think that it is it, I think it is already cool so these are just "extras" lol.

- Mississippi rifles with sword bayonets. (though sword bayonets would be heavy and reduce accuracy more so than a regular bayonet) <--would be a nice 'feature'
- I want my full manly beard! Character creation just teases me with them..
- Add Davy Crockett, with his coon skin hat (at least as a DEV unit) so we can see him fight at the Alamo!!!

The big beards are broke. You can see them, but when you select them it gives you something else. I thought maybe if I selected another beard it might give me a big one eventually.(Like the face sliders) I went through all of them.. didn't work

I don't know if this is the proper place to put this, but just out of curiosity; Why is the Seventh Georgia an Irish regiment? I haven't been able to find anything saying they were. (If you guys did find something about them being Irish, feel free to throw that back at me. I'm just wondering about it.)
Title: Re: Suggestions and feedback

Everything seems pretty good... But I dunno, maybe a few extra state banners should be added. You have like Maine, Virginia and such but you're missing a couple of other state regimental colors. There are some state regiments that are in the game but can't quite find their state in the banners so they need to default to the American flag or something. Just an idea.

Where is stated that they're Irish? It doesn't say anywhere in the mod. And no they're not.

The combination of their battle flag and war cry would suggest that they are, at least according to the mod.

I really don't think that the mississippi rifle should have a sword bayonet. One of the charming things about it is that it doesn't have any attachments in the mod. That's just my opinion, though.

Thought it would be best to post this here. If anybody has any bugs or solutions to them, please contribute to this FAQ and Fixes thread I made on the Workshop page! The "DLC is missing" error is the most prevalent, so if there are any solutions to that or any other problems you may have had, please put them there so others know! Also, in providing solutions, provide sources if possible!

It's possible to run the installer and unpack the mod to a folder of your choosing (not in the modules folder where the installer defaults to), then you can move the mod to the modules folder.

If your OS is telling you that the installer is unsigned and untrustworthy, click on "read more" and "run anyway" - or the OS' equivalent.

Other than those, what kink of problems were you having?

In the quote below you can see what problem I have and what I have tried:
When I ran the installer, I get a messege that says:
"This mod requires the Napoleonic Wars expansion for Warband.

Please get it on www.taleworlds.com or other places like steam,
and then re-run the setup program."

This hasn't happend to me before, I bought NW and Warband from Steam so its not pirated or anything.

If you have problems with your NW key (NW is not installed), please do the following:

- Right click on Mount & Blade: Warband on steam and select view CD key.
Copy the Napoleonic Wars serial code or keep it open.

- Click Start > Run
- Enter regedit, right click to open with administrative rights
- A new window will open, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > MountAndBladeWarbandKeys
- Search the entry, serial_key_nw,
- If it doesent exist, make a string value with that name and enter your cd key there.
- make sure that the value is the same as your CD key. Also make sure that the key is separated correctly. Double click the entry and modify it until it is correct. Watch out for invisible spaces in the CD key.
- If you are done with that, close the Registry Window and start the installer, and have fun playing!

Just wondering, why is the parrot guns projectile drop so heavy?

*EDIT*

Oh, just wondering if you could add an extra animation for the musket with bayonet fixed, seeing as parrot managed to have different animations for the bayonet fixed/unfixed firearms just wondering if you could have the fixed bayonet be held in a right shoulder shift  when walking position, and unfixed just be shouldered when walking and have possibly a randomized holding position for when one is running with a firearm though in a similar position to iron europes running with rifle animation.

Oh, and a new flag model would be nice for directx7, the mod still looks very nice in the lower end of warband, but the cardboard flags tend to let it down.

Perhaps a graphics reduction, using the default NW graphics. Some people I know have Potato computers and can not run the mod due to crashing because of the stunningly gorgeous new HD graphics. 0.5 worked fine and even some of the beta's worked fine but the release seems a bit laggy when it comes to the new world textures and shaders that were added

Indeed very true, but when I attend events I would enjoy having all my regiment have fun not having to deal with them crashing. The old textures weren't bad, so maybe an alternative download would be nice. SD vs HD

I posted a fix for the "DLC not found" error the installer gives players. Hope that helps.
As for changes, perhaps something about the amount of bot teamkilling in CB would be nice, unless it is intentional to get players to use the "Fire at my command" order, along with being better about their positioning. If it's intentional, then by all means, please leave it as is.

Tking is controlled by the admins. Weather they want it on for realism or turn it off due to some idiot always placing his friendly troops behind his own and leaving them on 'fire at will'. Its preference and is already changeable.

I think that the speed of reloading revolvers should be changed. Because it is very fast reloading for capsule revolvers. Real-time loading of capsule revolver takes up more 50 seconds. And if it will be in the future, I would like it see some changes in animation of loading revolver.  ;)

Bumping this seeing as it got buried.  :-\

Another idea, make it so that all projectiles kick up dust when they land, sometimes it just feels like i'm firing nothing but smoke.

Are there weapon(/unit) stats anywhere?  If not, it would be awesome to see a list made.  I recall in <1.0 there was a .txt full of the stats of every weapon, which was convenient.

If there are stats already, my apologies.

EDIT - just noticed you put my map in the mod!  i thought that it went to waste when i didn't see a "winner" of that map contest.  thanks devs!

I think you should add in two more factions for Foreign Intervention, El Savidor and Guetemala. This is because these two countries were at war with each other during the civil war, and considering you have taco eaters and tea drinkers added in, why not these guys?

Some of the random maps are graphically demanding. At the DA event last night, the last round was on a large random plain map I think. About half the server (probably more) had about 10fps the entire time. One of my guys even had his game crash due to the amount of lag. I have only seen 1 other random map behave this way, but would still be nice if if could be a little more compatible with most of the players.

The inability to properly customize faces due to sliders not corresponding to the proper parts of the face (i.e. Eye height adjusting chin size, for example) is still real annoying, but I dunno how many people actually go out of their way to customize their faces :P

Random maps are less demanding than custom maps, since they have no where near as many props and other things on them. If people are crashing after a certain amount of play time, they should check to make sure that "load textures on demand" is enabled and that they've made Warband large address aware (since it's a 32bit program).

when a rifle is in melee mode (i think only with the bayonet on, i honestly don't go into melee mode without a bayonet very often) it feels like the unit moves slower like the before-patched napoleonic wars melee-mode movement speed (i might be wrong on this, it just feels that way).  not sure if that's a bug or intended feature, but i thought i'd post about it.

the .69 buck-and-ball seems a little strong compared to the other infantry choices (statistically).  i don't really care about it in public play, however, some event leaders have taken measures against it (i.e. made "shock infantry" which are special units who are the only ones with access to it).  it has better all-around stats - when a bayonet is on, its accuracy and length are better than other bayonetted rifles/muskets and the reload speed is quicker, and with/without a bayonet it has one shot and two pellets meaning it works as efficiently as other rifles at range but better at close-medium range.  i recommend doing something to limit its advantage over the other infantry weapons.

i don't mean to sound like i'm complaining about the .69 because honestly i haven't seen it destroy other regiments or anything in-game, it just seems like it would be too strong statistically.  also, i mentioned that some event admins have put it into a special linebattle class, so it's able to be nerfed in the sense that only a few per-linebattle can use it.

to end it with some feedback, when i saw the posters/paintings on release i thought they were a neat and innovative idea.  more posters/paintings for 1.1? ::)

if i have any more suggestions or feedback i'll post more ;)

That's good feedback Sethja! The .69 Cal does have some accidental stats that were left over from whatever I copy-pasted to add that one quickly, and will be rebalanced in the next patch.

The weapon lengths are all based on their mesh lengths, so a longer mesh naturally means a longer reach. Not much to do about that :P

I feel like the FI faction is missing a lot.
Like Behr said it doesn't have any Sergeants except for the British Line Infantry, FI has no medic and has no sharpshooters (I guess Prussian Jaegars could be sharpshooters but they aren't actually using sharpshooter rifles) Canadian unit would also be a nice touch since the war is in North America.

i've thought of this one a while though couldn't back it up other than "my eyes hurt," so here's more of an argument  ;)

i think that the "desert" texture is very useful (reference being NW) in that it can fit the role of a desert or a beach on maps (it doesn't perfectly fit beaches, but it works)

the problem is that the new desert texture given is a very dry-desert sort of ground (crackly, white-ish) and it no longer fits for beaches.

sort of a different problem, random desert maps explode my eyeballs with bloom (probably a graphics system thing, not a desert texture thing) and with that the NaS units don't really fit their environment color-wise (i guess that's going to be an issue regardless, dark blue uniforms being in sand and whatnot)  i haven't seen many others complain about it, tho i know my regiment's eyeballs are also exploding from the bloom.  :P

in my opinion, the texture should be changed (reverting back to the NW texture would be fine as well)

i hope you don't take my opinion as a sort of sethja-hate rhymes with sethja8 i guess i just have very specific issues with this one texture  ::)

Yeah, while for me it looks okay, there is indeed some bloom problem and its lagging a bit, when a desert map starts.
Will definatly have a look at this and might change the texture.

Yeah, it's too bright, it's something to do with the ground texture. I have a different one in Blood and Iron that works well for US, Middle Eastern, and African deserts, and beaches.

For the next patch I'll make a similar one for NaS, but originally I wanted something a little unique for the NaS deserts :P

bleeding isn't a problem in my opinion, but above that, with what work has been put into the medic classes there'd really be no point to them anymore (unless the bandages were reworked to heal, which would also be a somewhat silly mechanic)

I like the system in place. Its not call of duty. I don't think we should be able to magically heal from bullets/bayonets. The game is meant more for linebattles. Thats where most of the community attends and it adds a whole new feeling to the game when you have to call out for your line's medic. Killing the enemy officer or medic can cause chaos and death. If you only play for solo multiplayer you are just missing out.

Hey,
I've got 2 things to say,
First, I guess it would be nice to have both bandage and some sort of "surgery kit" It would only be available to medic and would make you regain portion of your health points. Medic class wouldn't be useless anymore, and think about it - you are hit by a bullet. You fall, but someone takes you back, takes the bullet off and puts a bandage. Would it make you way more likely to die from another bullet? I don't think so. This medical item should surely be veeery slow, to express time needed for simple surgery.
Second, I support the idea of adding sword bayonet for Mississippi, even if it will be slow and pretty useless, it would remove the bottle bug. If you're unable to remove this bug other way, of course.

the surgery kit bad idea it would cause more camping and longer rounds

The wounded system was added to make the rounds faster. If you could get healed, it would become a camp party, like Hairy said.
Also, the mississippi is a skirmish rifle, thats why it has no bayonet. Same for the Lorenz rifle...

The bottle bug will be fixed.

Ok, good to know.
I'd also like to say that Maryland's and North Carolina's II privates seem to have better accuracy, which is ... :o Is this intended?
And I would also have a request about uniforms, could you make them slightly dirtier and less straight? So that they would look more like a used uniform and less like an ironed suit? :D

Private II for most units is the skirmisher/light infantry, which has better accuracy, but less melee stats.
The uniforms are straight, cause Manassas was the first battle of the war.

The mod is not about the entire civil war, its about the first battle of Manassas. Thats why the uniforms have less dirt ;)

Aaah, it makes sense so much now xD I though II private is only supposed to have his rank on shoulder :D

Waiting for North & South: Third Petersburg then   ::)
But to be serious, whith all these things discussed I can only wait for new units and a small thing I though off today: I think it would be a good idea to modify map names. Bigger ones used for line battles could have (big) in its name and smaller ones would have (small) That would surely help to chose a good map for people who want to play with random guys but don't know which map to chose. I often play with 8 guys on Manassas map and it's quite bad to march all the way to them ;)

Well actually... I've got some things to tell yet :p

I wish rifles / muskets were more accurate and took more time to reload. And also it'd be great if springfield was useful. I always wanted to be line infantry but both UA and DA are spammed with sharpshooters and skirmishers, what makes LI gameplay a series of being shot every round, without even getting a chance to use your bayonet.

What sounds as nothing special but could possibly change the mod a lot is making soldiers actually march, not run when moving. It would really add much immersion in my opinion. Also, it'd be great if soldiers were mostly marching, but get the possibility to run when very close to the enemy (charging).

And finally, I've seen your previous mod - Secession. It had something like morale system, which sounds really interesting. Why was it removed? Was it buggy? Or maybe players didn't like it?

Thank you

I don't think you've been to a UA lb haha we use nearly enough the same tactics as in NW when it comes down to rules plus we only allow 1 sharpshooter and no skrims. Maybe come along to a event and see for your self we do have big brawl out in melee

1) The mod is made for line battles only. A round needs between 15-20 minutes at the moment. If the reload would be longer, we would have insane round times ;)

2) Running as default is needed. If there would be a stamina system, it would be different. But this is not planned ;)

3) Secession is a different mod. We could add morale, but it would have to much impact on the line battles.

There is a reason, why this mod stays more for arcade and fast gameplay. There are games in development, which are based more on realism like you want ;)

Thank you very much for your reply. So you're going to keep it like it is... Well, I hope to see features I stated in WoR ;)
EDIT: Actually increasing reload speed could be compensated with increasing accuracy. Rounds would take the same time, but it would be more historical and interesting in my opinion!

The whole point they didn't add bayonets to them was because they wanted those rifles to be used by skirmishers since they have better accuracy. There would be no need for the Harper's Ferry or the Springfield if the more accurate guns got bayonets as well.

No weapons can cross-map their projectiles apart from artillery. NW is coded so that when a projectile reaches a certain distance it drops in a vertical line straight down.

Which is a pisstake in itself.

I'd like to ask for balancing units in CB. Although this game mode was greatly improved since 0.5, it still has some flaws. These are:
- Soldiers are still equiped with knifes, which leads to ridiculous situation where they fight with these knives instead of their bayonetted rifles (i.e. Lousiana Tigers).
- Zouaves appear to have much less soldiers, even though they are only a little bit better than lines.
-Some units appear to be much better at shooting than others (27thVA for example, seems to be the best at shooting of all line regiments).
-Sometimes after melee, bots cannot switch their weapons back to shooting mode (applies to non-bayonet rifles).
-Bots massacre one another on the spawn.

I also think the best solution would be to give line regiments only Springfields 42 or 55 depending on faction; giving lines other weapons in unnecesary and unbalanced in my opinion.

Thanks!

Well I have a few fixes for you.
1) The units are pretty balanced with the exception of the Foreign Intervention Highlanders which are Over Powered in melee

2) The units equipped with knives are probably skirmishers and because of this they probably have a skirmisher's rifle instead of a bayonetted weapon

3) Zuaves are skirmishers just like the rifles in NW they will have less men due to their improved shooting skill. In NaS the shooting is so much more accurate that if the zuaves had the same number as a line the line would most likely be decimated before they would be able to get into melee.

4)27thVA and 3rdCT both have very good shooting at CLOSE range due to their buck & ball rifles which are basically shotguns.

5) As for the not being able to switch back to melee mode. The bot commander must hit 0 to regain control of the bots (this is for if he for some reason lost control), then he must hit f4 and then hit f4, if you want to go back to melee hit f4 then f1.

6) As for the massacre at spawn just have the server turn off friendly fire for the round starts. If you play on the NaS_Official_CommanderBattle server (my server) you will be able to experience maps with functional AI mesh and no mass TK at spawn

7)As for the rifles, the Union uses the Harpers Ferry Rifles and the Confed uses the Springfield. The guns balance each other out as the harpers ferry may be better at shooting however the springfield is faster at melee.

Thank you for your reply, Doctor.
2) The units equipped with knives are probably skirmishers and because of this they probably have a skirmisher's rifle instead of a bayonetted weapon
They probably aren't. I meant such regiments as 1stLA or 3rdAR that are equiped both with bayonetted rifles and knives. These knives should really be removed from them...
3) Zuaves are skirmishers just like the rifles in NW they will have less men due to their improved shooting skill. In NaS the shooting is so much more accurate that if the zuaves had the same number as a line the line would most likely be decimated before they would be able to get into melee.
No... Zouaves are infantry equipped with casual, innacurate bayonetted rifles, but they have better shooting skills and worse melee skills than line infantry. So they're pretty much equivalent of light infantry in NW, and note that light inf in NW has as many guys as line inf.
4)27thVA and 3rdCT both have very good shooting at CLOSE range due to their buck & ball rifles which are basically shotguns.
I disagree, I tested them a lot and 27thVA are in fact OP. I know that shotguns are really bad at long ranges when actual players use them, but in LBs shotguns are for some reason much better than normal rifles. I'd be happy to see it fixed
5) As for the not being able to switch back to melee mode. The bot commander must hit 0 to regain control of the bots (this is for if he for some reason lost control), then he must hit f4 and then hit f4, if you want to go back to melee hit f4 then f1.
You didn't understand me at all. Obviously, I know how to switch bots back to shooting mode... The problem is that sometimes bots equipped with non-bayonet rifles bug and lock on melee mode. It doesn't happen with bayonetted rifles.
6) As for the massacre at spawn just have the server turn off friendly fire for the round starts. If you play on the NaS_Official_CommanderBattle server (my server) you will be able to experience maps with functional AI mesh and no mass TK at spawn
Server hosts are often too stupid to switch tk off, so fixing this bug would be really helpful.
7)As for the rifles, the Union uses the Harpers Ferry Rifles and the Confed uses the Springfield. The guns balance each other out as the harpers ferry may be better at shooting however the springfield is faster at melee.
And you didn't understand me again.... What I asked for is removing non-bayonet rifles from line infantry regiments, or at least considering it.

My suggestion is add this: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php?topic=121815.0

P.S. Lorenz rifle is line infantry gun like springfield, enfield or Harpers Ferry '55, if you want skirmisher gun, add long range variant.

This mod is really nice looking, the thing I find that lets it down the most though are the animations, it looks great otherwise.

Also firearms with bayonets fitted should suffer a reload penalty rather than accuracy, like in Whigs & Tories.

Hey, yes indeed! You sent it to me last year in july and it was added asap in my version. So it stayed in, as well as your retextures of the Enfield and Lorenz :)

Like I said, the Mississippi and Lorenz Rifle are SKIRMISH rifles in North and South. They have the best stats and are available for Skirmish units.
If the Mississippi would get a bayonet, it would be unbalanced, cause it would have better melee stats and best accuracy.
There is NO need to add bayonets for both guns.

This was done to make it balanced in comparison to the other rifles I believe. The Sharps is very accurate and if it had a faster reload speed, then it would be OP.

p.p.s Why recharge time of the Sharps rifle slower than any other rifle?
Spoiler
It was a single shot percussion lock breech loader that could be fired eight to ten times per minute (three times the rate of the Springfield rifle)

IF you strive for realism, war of rights to go to. This game as Hinkel stated were made mainly for line battles, more like arcade style. Bleeding was made to make the line battles faster, so people wouldn't camp as much with the bleeding, and to make some new features.
