Other Games / Re: Napoleon Total War - Pack File Manager and more...

I haven't modded NTW in probably 5+ years.  I found the answers(and the PFM) on the fan TW site.  I think there was even a dedicated section for modding.  If memory serves, you have to tell it to load it in some file.  The later TW games are easier to mod.

TBH the best "mod" one can do for NTW is just increasing troop size in the app data file.  Makes the battles a bit more fun and last longer.  Downside is fort battles aren't as good, as they are too small.  Luckily the AI rarely builds them.

Community / Re: Can we get NA1 back online?
« on: September 14, 2020, 05:53:33 pm »
We stopped having an NA server for NW year or so ago.  It wasn't worth having one up. At this point, i dont really see the need for us to host one either.  Our CB server was more popular than the battle server at the end.  Most of the people that pub played before we took the NA server down were in the various bot servers.

I don't blame people for wanting to play on those servers.  You dont have to worry about tryhards or veterans slaughtering you.  The bots just suicide into you while you camp.  Perfect for casual players.  CB is CB, which can always be fun.

As others have said, if people really wanted to play battle again, they would host their own.

We will have an NA server for BCoF.  Though if i had to guess, Conq will be more popular than battle.

I won’t vote for someone who doesn’t understand simple bbcode syntax
Wouldn't need to vote in this case.  Those 2 both applied more than a whole day past the deadline.  Since JollyCanadianare is the only one to apply in time, they win.

Haven't played since late April.   I am waiting for them to patch the game to a state where the servers dont crash or i dont get kicked back to MM randomly.  skirmish gets old quickly.  CB is ok.  Not as fun as NW CB.  Siege is the only really fun MP mode but that barely worked.  Sadly that has issues balance wise as well.

Haven't tried SP.  idk if i ever will.

i am looking forward to a full release with people hosting their own dedicated servers, and seeing what the mod community can do when that happens.

I will give this till 12 am central US on the 26th before I lock in who can run and put up the thread for people to vote in.

Troll apps will not be added, and you must answer all of the questions in the app. Consider this your warning.  I'll try and update the op daily, other mods can update it as well.  Check the stickied threads for help.

Why should you become CR?: I have been CR for three terms already, and I am the current NA CR. I believe I've done a good job at supporting and informing the community and I will continue to do as much.
What are one or two things you commit to doing as CR this term? Help maintain the community where I can. Supporting and participating in competitive and casual events, and support those who attempt to host.

I am just happy there is a chance Hockey playoffs will happen.  Out of any sport, hockey has the best post season play.

Of course, with them not playing or really practicing for months, we will see how sharp some of these teams are.

After March Madness of course. Which was tragically taken from us...  :'(

SETON HALL WOULD'VE WON IT I'M STILL FURIOUS
I was looking forward to seeing how far Iowa would of gotten.  They surprisingly had a decent team.  Probably sweet 16 potential. Plenty of up and down years with this coach, and he was denied a chance to cap off a good year.

Good draft for Iowa this year.  5 overall picks.   I am little surprised on where a few of them finished up, but still solid.  Sadly i dont recall any ISU players being drafted.

Not sure how many will be signed outside of the draft  for either team.  I guess we will see how many are on the final rosters this fall, assuming there is a football season.

It is hard not to enjoy playing cav in its current state.  Your horses do not buck like they do in NW when you run into a wall at full speed.  Horses accelerate very fast.   Spears overall are very underwhelming.  You can run off cliffs and not only live, but sometimes both you and your horse do not lose a lot of HP.  Horses can tank a ton of damage.  2 handed weapons on horseback are comically good.   I haven't been too impressed with 1 handed swords.   Even when you are dismounted, there is a good chance you will just fly far enough away that you are safe.

Amusingly, socialist policies are widely liked by americans if the word socialist isn't attached to it or the person advocating it.  SS, medicare, medicade, and things like food stamps come to mind.  I thought i remember hearing that millennials and those after dont have the same view on the word socialism as previous generations do.   They were born after or near the end of the cold war.   They dont have the same view about the government and its role.

and i agree.  i dont think the idea of a total revolution into most parts of people's lives will sell well.(left or right)   Not until things reach a certain boiling point economically and socially.

the internet has always been a tool for the vocal minority to sound and act louder than they really are.  It does make it harder to see what the majority actually think.

i think a large chunk of the vote for bernie and even trump was anti hillary.

i think debates are mainly about not messing up and showing you can do them well more than anything else. Unless you have several stand out moments in said debate.  Actual debates about the pros and cons of various ideas doesnt happen until you have 2-3 people who are not shouting over each other. With more time actually discussing a topic rather than getting your prepared 30 second line out. At the same time, everyone probably has their mind made up by that point and dont really care about any one issue.  They just want their person to win.
