Holy fuk gluk, it's more complicated than that. Ghandi was the most approachable, palatable and face-saving person for the British to negotiate with. I'd say it wasnt so much Ghandi that made them consider negotiations but actually the massive insurrections going on throughout the subcontinent of India.

I do imagine that if it was not for a figure like Ghandi who preached non-violence, there would have been a larger rift in the movement between those who wanted violent/non violent action.

There is truth to the notion that reacting violently gives the "state" who holds the existing authority a reason to 'defend itself', usually they create a reason with agent provocateurs like in the Haymarket Affair.

The idea is to build up through direct action, not reformism. We have to replace what we've got now with something different but emphasized on creating, not destroying. You need both to defend against the darkness.

He is running for President of the United States, this means he is acknowledging the state and capitalism.
Even though he has a slightly better platform than the rest of those muppets running for office but it pails in comparison to the revolutionary programs laid out by anarchists.

The Catalonian Anarchists joined the Spanish Republican government, providing no less then 4 ministers - including commerce. How is that not acknowledging the state and capitalism?

As if we don't know about historical mistakes. Self-criticism has brought us to these conclusions and many anarchists disagreed with them even then.
I mean, fuck anarchists for being good people and trying to work together with stalinists, liberals and other statists to beat the fascist menace. They were naive and i can sit here in my chair and write a whole story about what they should've done but thats lame as fuck. Nipplestockings mentioned Rojava and Chiapas, they are actually doing shit.
