Here is an interesting topic for discussion.
Modding for NW has been around for over a year now and we've seen several interesting and different post or pre-Napoleonic era multiplayer mods with different settings. Most of us have tried these events with our regiments or close friends.
The question is though, outside the Gun Powder era (1700-1830) can the traditional MM/NW style rules in battle mode actually work enough to be fun and well balanced enough to be used?
The reason I brought this topic up as BCOF is slowly making progress in Alpha and while release is still a bit away we should really think what we should bring and leave from our experiences with NW and Mount And Musket.
After attending at least several hours of non NW events with Blood And Iron and North & South I've pretty much come to this conclusion. It doesn't work, especially in a lightly moderated environment with a single (possibly playing moderator) the mechanics and historical balance pretty much take away the simple random pleasure of working together as a group to ambush or volley a engage line and the random chance of barely surviving a brutal melee or musket shot is pretty much gone.
I honestly believe however a good rule set can work with these mods in the Conquest and Siege game modes, however solid mapping with said mods is required for these.
