The Iron Waffles are a group of players who have been brought together by a friendship forged in battle. Being an Iron Waffle means more than being a part of some gaming group. It means being brave, skilled, and being a friend your comrades can count on. There is no group out there like the Iron Waffles. Being an Iron Waffle is something special and that is my promise to any and all people who wish to enlist. I can also promise that you will never have to deal with officers who abuse their power. We take the game we play no more seriously than a game needs to be taken but we give everything 100% effort and that has lead us to some stunning victories in the past. And we shall strive ever onward to win even more victories in the future.

Belgian jagers fighting at Waterloo
The 36ste Jager Bataljon and Waterloo

David Hendrik Chasse was a very experienced commander and was affectionately named "Papa Chasse" by his soldiers and "General Bayonet" because of his fierceness and preference of bayonet charges. Even Napoleon greatly respected Chasse and was the first to give him the name "Général Baionette" while he fought in French service in Spain years before Waterloo. On Chasse's own initiative, the division marched forward with drums and fifers roaring and their shakos held high on their bayonets. Many British regiments laughed at the passing Dutch/Belgians but those brigades soon broke, while Chasse's division attacked with bayonets and broke the French Old Guard. The Belgian jagers of Chasse's division would have been the first to engage the French soldiers but when the order to charge was given, all units advanced with bayonets.

The Belgian jagers of the Dutch army were made up of many veterans of campaigns in the French army and during the reforms of the Dutch army, the most experienced troops were given to the light battalions and then to the light companies of line battalions and so on. During most of the Battle of Waterloo, Chasse's division was kept far to the right because of Wellington's apparent distrust of Chasse as the Dutch general had faced off against Wellington many times in Spain. However, Chasse proved his allegiance and more importantly, his effectiveness when he ordered his division to break the French Old Guard. However, to the shock and dismay of Chasse and his victorious soldiers, Wellington completely omitted the attack of Chasse's division from his account of the battle. The Belgian jagers were skirmishers and therefore highly skilled individuals, most of whom were probably former French voltigeurs or chasseurs.

The 36th's commanding officer, Colonel Charles Goethals, was a veteran of the famous French 112th Line Infantry and at the Battle of Raab he fought alongside the commander of another famous Belgian unit (the 7de), Francois-Chretien Van de Sande. Goethals and Van de Sande were both awarded the Legion d'Honneur for their exploits. Goethals was decorated on the field of battle for having captured 12 prisoners single-handedly! So yes, Goethals was a badass.

I saw some talk about a new patch coming Monday which is today and I'm confused because I see nothing about an update.

General Discussion / Uniforms with a twist
« on: July 10, 2013, 08:28:35 am »
I decided it would be a good idea to bring this thread over to the FSE forums. Basically you just post pictures of completely made-up uniforms based on the Napoleonic Era or somewhat earlier if you feel like it. I'll post an example so you can get the general idea.

I tried to get on NW today but whenever I try to join a server it says "Incorrect Authorization Key" but I didn't have this problem literally 8 hours ago. I tried entering my CD key and that didn't work.

Off Topic / Locked out

Tonight I was locked out of my house by my family so I decided to leave them a little note wedged in the door.

Spoiler

For those of you who can't read my terrible handwriting, it reads as follows

Thank you for
locking me out. I just
want you to know I now
plan on wandering the streets
at night until I get
recruited by a gang or
something

P.S. - I could hear you
snoring from outside... you
know... that place where I was trapped.
-Your loving son/brother,
Jake

Any of you ever been locked out of your house? And if so, what did you do? I usually find a way to enter through a window or something. I was prepared to sleep on the porch but my girlfriend came and got me lol.

Historical Discussion / Prussian infantry/rifle regiments
« on: April 17, 2013, 05:06:38 am »
I was wondering, could anybody give me a list of Prussian landwehr units from around 1796-1800? And what were rifle regiments in the Prussian army like? Can anybody give me a list of Prussian rifle units from around 1800-1814, where were they stationed/what kind of reforms and battles did they experience? After I've gathered the information I need I'll let you in on a secret project of mine ;)

Other Games / The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
« on: April 10, 2013, 05:06:49 pm »
I recently started to play this game again and I can easily see why I fell in love with it years ago, while Skyrim is very fun and I enjoy the bajeebuz out of it, Oblivion has a certain charm to it that I can't resist. I've gotten hundreds of fun hours out of this game and I intend to get hundreds more.

What about you guys? Do you still play? What kind of stories do you have to share? What do you love/hate about the game?

Suggestions & Bug Reports / A new command for Commander Battles
« on: April 10, 2013, 03:22:24 pm »
I've noticed in Commander Battles, the frequent issue of having all of your soldiers facing the wrong way. Whether they're shooting at the wrong line - I've had my whole line shoot at a cavalry regiment on the other side of the map but ignore the enemy infantry 50 meters in front of us - or if they are facing the wrong way while retreating. My suggestion is to add commands that allow you to tell your soldiers to face a different direction, IE- "Face Right", "Face Left", and "About Face" this would allow the player to keep a tighter leash on his soldiers and keep them from screwing up so much.

And going along with this suggestion I would like to recommend the ability to wheel infantry lines. It's usefulness goes without saying really. I'm sure anybody who's played commander battle knows how useful these things could be.

Historical Discussion / Deadliest Warrior
« on: March 21, 2013, 02:10:19 pm »
I'm sure most (if not all) of you have heard of or seen this show. What are your opinions on its historical accuracy and the outcomes of some of the episodes?

Personally the two episodes I have a big problem with are the Napoleon vs Washington episode. That episode was entirely inaccurate, the only reason Washington won was because they didn't want to show Washington getting spanked on national television.

The other being the episode of the knight vs the pirate. This episode was ridiculous from the start, they put a medieval knight vs the weapons that made him extinct, it was horribly mismatched. However I do have to say that if a knight caught a pirate in melee, the pirate would be helpless unless he had a firearm at his disposal. And I would just like to point out that during the fight scene on that episode, the knight struck the pirate upwards of 3 times with a flail if I remember correctly.

If you could pick one person to make a soundtrack for your life, who would it be? For me it's a tough choice between Lindsey Stirling, Tiesto, and Hans Zimmer.

Community / The use of companies in Line Battles?
« on: March 08, 2013, 05:12:08 pm »
So I've been wondering, what's the general opinion (particularly of linebattle administrators) on the use of companies by regiments in linebattles. What I mean is that typically, infantry regiments had a grenadier company and a light company which could be used for different things, light companies for example could be used as a screen for the other companies, things like that. What do you guys think about allowing infantry regiments to do these kinds of things in linebattles? Like allowing a regiment to use x% of it's members as a "light company" if they choose to do so. This light company isn't allowed to go as light infantry but they can act as light infantry IE- deploying in skirmish lines, crouching, etc. but they MUST stay with their regiment, they can't just run off and skirmish independently. An example of their application would be for example if a regiment needed to wheel their line, so they deploy their light company to keep enemies off their back while they shift formation. Or another example is if a line regiment if moving in a column, if they had their light company arranged in a screen around them - as the name implies - screen their movements. What do you guys think?
