Bitch please, screw all the officers. How bout them rankers standing first in line while vollies are exchanged. How do you not break and run when people on either side of you are getting shot and dying. Pray for a headshot to end you swiftly

That's if you're lucky and not getting pelted/blown apart by artillary, sliced up with cavalry swords or bayonets. Honestly, I have no idea what would compel these men to march in a straight line towards cannons would literally rip them apart.

Historical Discussion / Napoleonic Wars and shellshock, PTSD etc.
« on: March 14, 2014, 04:46:54 pm »
PTSD and other disorders resulting from exposure to combat in some shape or form has been a problem for the U.S. military from Vietnam to Iraq, and in the case of Iraq and Afghanistan it is reported that more soldiers have died from suicide or depression than from firefights or bombs.

What I wanted to know was - did this sort of thing happen during the Napoleonic Wars? I know that people in general were used to a harsher and more violent lifestyle, but on the other hand standing in a line waiting to get blown apart by artillary at any moment would be a terrible thing to withstand. I've looked online and haven't found anything definitive - any thoughts?

General Discussion / Re: A concern on Rifle accuracy changing game play
« on: February 14, 2014, 09:08:00 pm »
Honestly, a good way to reduce the musket accuracy is simply to NOT tell the person if they've hit someone, via hit marker or by showing the kills ala Napoleonic Wars. That way, people have to actually fire through smoke and fire with some degree of inaccuracy, rather than firing in a certain direction until the hit marker says that they're hitting people.

General Discussion / Re: Acceptable accents for BCOF

One thing I would note is that Northern and Southern accents actually weren't that different before the war - it was following the Civil War that the southern accent began to develop its own identity, due to the tense relationship between the North and the South.

I know this might sound kinda silly, but if you do have a german accent could you have the immortal phrase: "gott shutze den Kaiser!" Yeah, I know it doesn't really have any real meaning in the Civil War but it would be a nice homage to the mod (and it would be funny to someone who isn't too fluent in German :P)

General Discussion / Re: Which role will you play?

Of course, I would play as an infantryman fighting on the front lines, but if I would choose I would probably be an engineer - it's cool to build stuff to keep your men in the game and keep the enemy out of your personal space.

On another note, why are there so many friggin snipers? Snipers were hated by pretty much everyone in the Civil War and oftentimes, if a sniper was captured by anyone who wasn't also a sniper, they could expect no quarter - period.
