All of these wonderful articles are done by a team in Columbia Rifles. I have read their stuff and they are most excellent reading, tips, and research materials to have.
They do have two volumes of their entire research on sale but its quite rare. If you come across it, nab it!

Glad to have shown the stuff to yah will do allot of reading. This is a must read thread for civil war reenacters and I feel the article on taking hits can apply to any period.

Excellent article Munk, I read this just before a event. I tried the support arm correct posture. It was bit hard considering my hardee's brim was in the way. But I'll get used to it. Half of the company seems to do the same and other half doesnt but that event was 95% new recruits. I will pay more attention to support arms command next event. I'm curious how did we or I miss that.

Yeah, intresting read. Also on the re-enactors.
In the NL we have a similiar issue, with the holding of the musket at the barrell. People were drilled for years with the idea this was absolutely not to be done, but recently it has been discovered that apparantly this idea was brought in from ACW-re-enactment, and more importantly, NW did (apparantly) held them at the barrel.
As I'm making a switch to the light cavalry at the moment, and as a result I won't own an infantrymusket (nor a carbine, actually), I decided to not get into the discussion. Nor do I have any evidence for either option.
After all, who cares about the petty problems of the infantry?

We don't ride little ponies, we ride Frisians.
Trustworthy black ponies with GREAT stamina. Perfect! And because they are all black, it will look fantastic! 8)

Great article! I know that feeling. I tried to surrender a few times, but they always end up ignoring or shooting me. In both situations they laugh at me.
It's also faaaar more common for people to switch sides. xD

Just throwing in another article, not by Columbia Rifles, it was shared to me recently by my friend Dordak. It has some excellent advices and stuff.
