Title: Lime Shot for Artillery
Post by: Emperor Napoleon on March 22, 2013, 07:34:34 pm
Hey

I just it would be a nice idea to have a quik lime shot for artillery. It was used frequently historically, and it would be cool to be able to use it in-game.
But, since it is such a lethal substance, it whould be moderated, say 3 shots per cannon or something.

Two things. It was not used in the Napoleonic era, and lime is not lethal. In fact I think it's safe to eat. It's mostly just calcium.

If anything Carcass shot was used more frequently, for setting fire to villages and such.

I've read in memoirs that lime was extremely effective, the juices would get plumes soggy and demoralize soldiers

*Face desk*

Calcium Oxide or "Quicklime" is quite hazardous, infact should be handled wearing a face mask and rubber gloves. Inhilation can cause similar effects to inhaling a pyroclastic flow from a Volcano or ash fall from one ... mass inhilation or constant inhilation will eventually solidify in your lungs causing a build up of otherwise known as "Concrete" in severe cases.

Contact on moist skin can also cause irritation, also contact with eyes can cause blindness on a permanant circumstance or temporary if treated immdiatly.

Considering this is Napoleonic era the treatment for such a thing would be more likely ... death or removal of the eyes.

Kator, my point was that he said 'lime' in the title which can, and usually does, refer to calcium hydroxide, which isn't at all dangerous.

Just a joke.

A lot of popular fiction suggests that you can dissolve a dead body to dust with quicklime, but in reality all it does is suck the water out and mummify it. It's good for covering up the smell though - keeps the Blue Helmets guessing for a little while.

Pfft.

Everyone knows you use a bath of sulphuric acid to dissolve bodies.

I think that's the point. In a book, I read about the English navy defeating Eustache the Monk by throwing quicklime at his ship. It reacts to the moisture in one's eyes and causes blindness.

Which also why I think it'd make a terrible addition to NW.

We don't need cannon propelled Flashbang grenades.

Not to mention the gameplay issues, since Quicklime wouldn't kill you directly it would be really annoying to be walking around blind or slowly losing health because your lungs are becoming concrete. Additionally i think i giant white cloud might cause server lag and then figuring out who is damaged, who is blind etc.

Also carcass shot wouldn't work either because of the server lag it would cause , so i think im happy with just explosive and canister.

I new this would happen. I did obviously quick lime. Why would I suggest something safe for a warfare game?

And I didn't think of lag issues, and the fact that it would kill you slowly. Thanks for the "positive" feedback I suppose!

Can any one link me to a good history page for quicklime? I know what Lime does but I can't find anything about using it in shots for artillery.

Haha, you guys are so derpy. Quicklime would be cool, but I agree that it would cause a lot of server lag. Also, quicklime shot was in both NTW and ETW, so shh.
