Title: WFaS Porting..
Post by: Furrnox on November 09, 2015, 03:24:03 am
This might have been asked before but is it possible to port skins from WFaS over to NW?

I think it's been done. However, it's not necessarily legal, I'm pretty sure. You at least have to change the textures from what I remember.

How can it not be legal it would just be a mod?

I just remember there being some issue related to that with some major mod. I think Flying Squirrel Entertainment and what is now Snowbird Games aren't supposed to use each others assets, something like that.

FSE wouldn't use the assets though a modder would. :P

But yeah I do remember something like this being discussed before.

Yeah it's possible. Some mods that have been in development for NW also used WFaS assets. Though so far I know at least. None has been finished at this point.

I think that you need to get permission from the developers of WFaS to port models over. If you just want to port models that are going to be used privately and shared with no-one else, feel free to use them.

That would be silly either you allow modding or you don't.

You're always allowed to use any resource without permission if it is to be used privately and not published.

WFaS has pretty much always given permission to use their resources. In fact as long you credit them I'm pretty sure you're allowed to include it's assets. As you can see in an OSP Wilhelm made who's thread is on Taleworlds. In that OSP he made use of WFaS assets. So downloading that, you as well download WFaS content. Thus you can use it.

Just give credit.

You just need permission from WFaS devs. I think people will have no problem with it since NW has the same animation as WFaS

You mean that they are using the same engine? I think they would mind if you are using their models without giving permission beforehand.

Stop thinking and start reading.

Looks like I need to make it even more clear then it already is..

Quote from: Wilhelm
With Fire and Sword - I was given permission to use WFAS models as a base by the WFAS team (Also the Caribbean devs), i emailed them, they seem to have no problem at all with the models being used in Warband, as evidenced by many other warband mods using their models.

So? Just he got permission to use them, doesn't mean that all of us have permission. You have to ask for permission before using it and include them in the credits, as far as I know.

Just include a check when installing your mod, that checks if WFAS is installed.
If the player owns both WFAS and NW, then it is allowed to use it.

Your source on this? You could be well be right. But like Wilhelm points out. It is unlikely.
