Discussion of morality without some sort of absolute standard, be it God or otherwise, is inherently pointless. No meaningful moral discourse can exist in a completely relativistic society, for there is no "right" or "wrong".

If you want something to consider, ponder your morals and determine whether or not they have any weight in any argument whatsoever. Ask yourself, if you have no "God" or "categorical imperative", how you can condemn Hitler or Mao without something to point to as "morally good"?

If things are simply "morally good" because we say they are, then morality is arbitrary.

*Note that I don't necessarily advocate these views, but you guys could benefit from thinking on these topics*

So time travel does not exist...unless someone DID go back in time and kill Hitler...and if so...then this time-space continuum will cease to exist the moment the assassin steps into the time machine...unless of course, someone did go back in time and kill someone WORSE than Hitler, and we're living in that time-space continuum now...which begs the question:  who is this man more nefarious than Hitler, so diabolical that future scientists and politicians deemed it necessary to go back in time to kill, changing history forever?

All excellent questions. I don't presume to be some sort of expert on philosophy, but it is something that is a serious interest of mine as of late. Personally, i think you would do good by looking int "existentialism," ill quote my previous comment on it,

This is how an existentialist would think. Existentialists accept our doom but make the absolute best of the life we currently have. There is no need to waste your life on the question of death if it's going to be answered eventually one way or another. Why does it have to be sooner rather than later?

So me and my debate couch were arguing about existentialism.

My argument was simple and that was that existentialism keeps with empirical evidence of the universe and tells a very simple story and that is, life has no objective purpose, seeing as we can't see one and no purpose has presented itself and there seems to be no way of finding out, this is not a ridiculous assertion. Existentialism explains the pure absurdity of everything in the universe to explain how unperfect and often pointless life can be. I also explained that existentialism tells that although life has no objective purpose, it can still and often does still have subjective purpose and that in order to find happiness, we must both accept the absurdity and pointlessness of it all while also finding our own subjective purpose in life.

His counter to that was that if life has no objective purpose then that means that all rules are off and that anything goes. He said that existentialism leads to total anarchy.

A lot of anarchists are existential nihilists, for sure. Your coach's worldview is built upon hierarchal ideology in a system in which he is fortunate enough to be at the top. Maybe law and order benefits his lifestyle, but for those who are being crushed under the suffocating burdens of the capitalist machine every day of their lives, it isn't so easy to appreciate things that way.

Wouldn't it also be correct to say that in order to find a subjective purpose in life, you have to therefore give life SOME level of order? There may be a few exceptions to this but i mean generally speaking i believe this would be true.

I also don't mean order as in the "state" or "capitalism," i mean like the order that arises out of disorder, the sort of implied order of things, if that makes sense.
