Overview

Hola folks!

Seeing as I have a fair amount of free time on my hands recently (and I've managed to work my head around how OpenBRF and Paint.net work) I've decided to try my hand at some simple reskins. Most of these are just going to be slight colour changes to existing skins (as well as swapping in and out the occasional model, such as the tarleton) so don't expect anything grandiose. Still, it's my first try at skinning, so I'd really appreciate some C&C.

I won't be taking any requests for the time being, partly as I don't feel quite competent enough yet and I'd much rather focus on reskins that interest me. Still, I'm easily contactable through Steam, so if you ever need to get a hold of me message me on [Nr24] Von Brandt (https://steamcommunity.com/id/joemackenzie/).

It's a couple of shades darker than it was, yeah. As it is now I can barely tell if it's dark green or black, which is where I'd like it to be. Might change that in the future, though.

I'll leave it as it is for now then; in the meantime I'll throw up an image of what I have for the 3rd Foot Guard ranker.

Does anybody know how to move the bumpmap for the button? I've been trying to do it myself and it doesn't seem to have had any effect.

You have to make an _s and _n (_n - normal map, _s - I don't know.)
Title: Re: Mackenzie's Workshop
Post by: HWMHall on November 28, 2013, 06:53:03 pm
S map is a spec (specular) map And if you used a different texture base IE the British  Light infantry jacket for a more uniformed look then you would have to change the spec and bumps in the proper files. All the ranker jackets use the 3 diff. drummer jackets' n-map and s-map. you will find them to edit in your mmmaterials and mmtextures. and always make a copy of files before messing with them. Also good job, keep up the good work.

Little bit of a teaser for you all; need to finish aligning the buttons and do some general tidying up, but the pack is nearing completion. I've decided to go for 1812 onwards for the uniforms, so you'll be seeing a return to the Belgic shako rather than the stovepipe.

More or less done and dusted. May adjust the colouring in the center flap as it's a little dark at the moment, although the reference image matches up alright.

Once I've finished with my current projects (both here and forum thread thingy) I'll consider it. I'm never really happy with anything I produce, so I tend to revisit things on an infrequent basis.

Serjeant. This uses elements of Willhelm's original skin that he did for the old 3rd Regiment of Foot Guards, however this has been adjusted to fit with the center company uniforms of the period, as well as the addition of a specular map to make the gold more shiny gold rather than bright yellow.

Will you be considering doing any Prussian Line or Light Infantry in the future? or a focused faction replacement pack?

Funny that; I've been looking at replacing the Silesians with a Prussian Fusilier unit and have a bookmark folder set aside with a fair amount of reference images and sources. I'll probably get around to it once I've cycled through the 53rd.

As for a replacement pack? I wouldn't mind replacing Russia with Spain, or taking Britain back to 1759. We'll see where it all goes, though.

Might consider the latter, as we've already got a Spain replacement mod that replaces Austria :).

Changed my mind regarding the Shropshire; I'll finish them off once I've moved.

I'll be taking suggestions (and throwing them up as poll choices) for other reskins from 1789-1815 so long as the odd source image or two is provided; I'll be fine for any British suggestions, though.

I saw someone made some really cool freikorps skins with the cowered shakos.
Replacing Russia would be a better choice imo. It's quite a "meh" of a faction.

Personally I disagree, plus they were a big part of the Napoleonic Wars.

Anyway here are some suggestions that can replace the rather bare bones bland Rhinelander Line for Prussia:

That falls a little outside my target area when it comes to skinning; I'll give it some thought, though, alongside the other suggestions that everyone has made.

Neuron you are reppin 3rdFG so don't make anything bad or I will stab you.

P.S can you make me a 92nd Highlanders skin to cover 42nd? (Considering 92nd were local to where I was born I feel it would be nice.)

In between college assignments, work and events I'm working on the 3rdFG again; mostly adding the option to swap out for stovepipe shako rather than the belgic, minor updates to the Serjeant and other minor tweaks here and there. I'll give the 92nd some thought, though.

EDIT; Small teaser for you all; the shako plates have yet to be textured and all, but this is a minor indication of some of the tweaking. I.e, repositioning the old plume on the centre company shako.

There is one on the taleworlds forum, look for it. I downloaded it, but I don't have the link.

I can't remember if the 92nd lost their highland distinction during the Napoleonic Wars. I know a fair few did.

just found a very interesting uniform;
http://centjours.mont-saint-jean.com/uniformes_uniteBR.php?uniformes=89&nation=5
If you could possibly make this instead of the 5th KGL?

Also, if possible, even make a variation in the skins when you respawn

if the above is too hard, just leave it out and pick one of the skins

Good luck with the UK overhaul!

with the 95th rifles I suggest you do Spanish Guerillas

I'll give it some thought; I'm a little bit reluctant to field a non-British regiment with regards to language and the like. I need to dig up the files I have on which regiments were in the area during that stage of the Peninsular War; I have the niggling feeling that one or two of them are out of place.

EDIT: That said, I'm certain the Spanish Guerillas could stand in for the ship crew.

The Nr24 Skin looks great! If I may ask, how were you able to change the name of the troop on the troop selection screen?

Modifying lines of text in the Troops.txt file in your Napoleonic Wars folder. Ctrl + F until you find the file that you're looking for.

Setting the UK Overhaul aside for now to focus on some other projects; it's completely unfeasible until I can find an Irishman to piss off and record his ranting.
