The Mess Hall / CluelessWill's Top North American Leaders
« on: June 04, 2018, 10:10:57 pm »
Hoping on the bandwagon to make my own list. If this offends you then I've done my job.

1. Karth (92)
Spoiler
I believe that Karth fundamentally did the most with the least. The 63e did have good melee characters but ultimately lacked the 'stars' that other regiments such as the 12th and 3eVolt had. This was made up for by the general skill of Karth's leading and excellent shooting ability and positioning of the 63e. There is a large amount of accusations that center on the alleged hillcamping of the 63e but as a member of the 'golden era' of the 63e, I can confidently say that most 'hill camping' was done to get another regiment to move off of their hill. I overall believe that Karth's accolades and leading abilities coupled with an overall less skilled regiment make him the best leader of NA

2. Tico (91)
Spoiler
There is little doubt that the 12th was and will be the greatest NW regiment of all time. Tico lead this great regiment to many titles and was an amazing leader. I have him ranked as number 2 simply because the high level of the 12th did mean that momentary lapses of leadership could be made up for by their excellent individual skill in melee.
[close]
3. AsianP (90)
Spoiler
AsianP is both a phenomenal player and leader. He lead multiple regiments (but for the sake of this the 3eVolt) to many victories and was easily a top 3 regiment against the likes of the LG (even post 45e merge). He was a great leader who knew how to get in close and use the 3eVolt's excellent melee to his advantage. He also had a great chain of command with people such as Godfried and Risk under him to provide should he not be there.

4. Cheesypants (89)
Spoiler
With multiple NWL wins and runner-ups under his belt, Cheesy demonstrated excellent leadership of the 71st and even saw the regiment end up on a high note as they destroyed the Weeb known as 'Lawbringer' during the Twitch Napoleonic Wars League Finals before disbanding.
[close]
5. RussianFury/Waste (86)
Spoiler
I have both of these great people together because they were a true split (imo). RussianFury would later take on most of the duties but at the height of the LG it was a truly split system. Russian and Waste were able to maneuver extremely well with their line and made excellent use of the reverse line tactic. Russian ultimately called the shots but Waste was a more then competent leader. I believe that even before the 45e merge into the LG that Russian and Waste were able to accomplish a lot in the scene in a very short amount of time in the wake of the 71st disbandment and exodus of many well known players
[close]
6. Grimsight (83)
Spoiler
Grimsight was an okay leader. I think he did a good job and he still accomplished a large amount over a large amount of time. I don't have him as a top 5 simply because I believe that the 12th and 63e meant he would never truly be able to become a top 1 regiment for an extended period of time but he still did a good job in the most competitive time of NANW. In short, he wasn't the leader that AsianP was. I also docked him as he included unofficial 1v1's on his record and this is a personal vendetta I have against him.
[close]
7. Millander +1 (80)
Spoiler
I never personally played with Millander so I have very little recollection of his abilities, I simply knew him for the passwords that made me want to leave the game such as 'hardeeslightinfantrytactics.' Regardless the 1stFKI lives on in NANW lore and he was able to form an extremely good regiment with a great group of players.
[close]
8. Wardop +1 (76)
Spoiler
The 14th/1a was a very good regiment and is often times forgotten despite the fact that they won a season of NWL. Although it was only one season that is still a worthy accomplishment.
[close]
9. Offizer/Zen -2 (72)
Spoiler
With the wake of the post-Karth exodus, Offizer and Zen were still able to keep Karth's 63e strong utilizing many of the same strategies while having even less skilled players. I believe they are great leaders and deserve a spot for leading a regiment that was mostly for non-competitive events on a scale that no other NA regiment has ever seen. Similar to Grimsight, neither would surpass their previous leader
[close]
10. Stox (70)
Spoiler
The 54th was by no means a GOAT regiment but they were still a force to be reckoned with back in the days of 50 man lines. What Stox lacked in basic English sentence structure he made up for in leading. During my tenure in the 63e every LB we had with the 54th was a long and drawn out affair where the smallest lapse in leading could mean the difference between a win and loss. Stox was an average leader during a competitive stretch of NW.

11. Mack [New] (69)
Spoiler
Although not a leader in the sense of linebattles, he started a model of a regiment where no one person commanded it. This was revolutionary to NW where there were large systems of power divided among leaders, subordinates and rankers. In the 9y with the system of equality it attracted a unique group of people who went on to be a dominant force in NANW and forever reshape the scene, even challenging the likes of the 12th during their prime.
[close]
12. Drew -1 (65)
Spoiler
Most people probably do not remember Drew but he lead the 18e in 2013. I joined this regiment and the fact that Drew nearly beat the 12th with their being an admin decision that decided the game was something I'll always remember. He's an example of a contender regiment which formed out of humble beginnings and was able to challenge a big name regiment relatively fast. I keep him on this list as he was a good friend of mine and a great person to know. He highlights that you don't need big shot's to be the best, similar to the 63e.
[close]

Reasoning: The majority of my lists are from the 2012-2016 era of NW. I still played throughout 2017-2018 but these times saw a lot of the big named regiments and players leave or experience lots of their core members moving away from NW. It also saw the concentration of skill based players in relatively few regiments which allowed leaders like Lawbringer to have good melee despite poor leadership. I believe 2013-2016 was the best era and highlighted the diversity of skill among North American regiments and the amount of 'contender' regiments that arose such as the 18th and 14th/1a. My lists includes accomplishments from organized linebattle events but I also draw a fair bit out of 1v1's that were done before these. There is also a lot done in terms of the legacy and influence of these leaders. This is exemplified in leaders such as Millander and Karth who are still remembered today despite not being as competitive of a regiment as others.

Disclaimer: I still didn't play against a lot of regiments though so it's hard to formulate opinions on certain leaders such as Alexander, Ody, & KnightofStJohn, etc. These are based mostly on my tenure in the 63e, 71st, and LG.

This list is subject to change

So out of the blue one day Mount and Blade simply doesn't work on my computer in any form ranging from old M&B, warband, NW, to even Fire and Sword. No mount and blade titles work. I launch the game off the launcher and I either get to the TW loading screen where I crash or simply get no response after launching.

I've verified cache, reinstalled, deleted all folders of M&B, reinstalled, and I've even reset my PC (deleting all program files) in an attempt to fix it and there was still nothing. I'm curious as to if there are any other fixes out there for this. Are drivers to blame? Any sensible explanations or fixes? Feedback appreciated since I love this game but can't play it :(

Basically I'm looking to know what you all use on your setups. I'm currently going to be moving so I'd like to know what yours look like so I can possibly change mine.

Also, just a quick question; Does anyone here use LED strips to accentuate their setup? I've been looking at them but wanted to get a first hand account.

I've yet to see a topic for this so here we go.

What are your all's thoughts so far on Russia's campaign into Syria?

Is America combating ISIS in an effective manner or should we take a new approach?

Off Topic / Short Story Thread ; Writing Thread
« on: July 15, 2015, 10:48:48 pm »
I figured that instead of using our forum abilities to write great insults and banter we could make a thread of where various short stories could be written, read, reviewed and changed to make a fun thread where people can practice their English or simply write for the fun of it.

Rules:
Whatever story you choose to write is up to you but I just ask that it does not break rules, offend any ethnic or racial groups, and refrain from vulgarities. The story itself can range from a few sentences to a few paragraphs just be sure to have a simple plot that is somewhat easy to follow.

If a person proceeds to troll the thread I will have them removed.

If anyone cant think of a topic just request one and we could maybe do a poll or something.

Mine:

It's the dead of night and everything is still, not a sound to be heard on the mountain. The moon gazes down shining it's white light over the peak illuminating the surroundings of the man as he leaves his tent. For three days the man has been here, uninvited, unwelcome by nature, but for three days the man has survived the inescapable cold and hostility. With the last of his strength the man battles his demons and ascends the mountain to safety. For three days war has been waged by humanity against itself, for three days there has been nothing but death and destruction that has come to the earth except for here, except for this mountain, the only safe haven to our protagonist. With the last of his energy the man see's it, he see's his salvation.. The Ark. The man grows wary but enters the large man-made structure and is immediately awed by the extent of the building's interior. Gold, silver, and diamond adorn the walls and floor as torches light the way to what appears to be a staircase. Upon entering it the staircase appears to lead down and the man follows. For what seems like many hours the man continues to go down this seemingly never ending staircase and the man begins to lose his sanity. He knew there would be tests to make it to the Ark but he never thought of this, of this simple Hell. Regardless, the man continues and is soon rewarded. He makes it to the door and proceeds to open it to find many other people who also made the trek to the only safe heaven in the war gripped world. He's done it... He's reached Peace, he's reached Nirvana.

Community / My Message to FSE and the NW Community
« on: January 31, 2015, 07:13:01 am »
Before you read this acknowledge that this is a personal opinion that is mutually shared by much of the forum users and is the subject of much controversy but of valid discussion.

Apologies for the spacing problems, I can't seem to fix them.

Napoleonic Wars is a great game, has (although some will argue it had) a great community, and continues to thrive with steam sales and youtube attention. Yet, when we actually look at this game and it's community, what's really happened? Is this game really what it used to be? Will we ever see Battle Cry of Freedom, the return of many of the users who helped build this community? That's the question I have.

Let's look at something. Donations are no doubt needed for a game and there is a lot of validity as to why you need them. Yet, even with the funding it seems like the game we've been promised has barely seen the light of day in terms of released alpha
material. Now if there really is more made, why haven't we seen it? Why let the community continue to move away instead of actually trying to keep them interested. It's at a point of where many of the people who donated to get BCOF will probably have moved on by the time it may be released. Now notice what I said there, may be released. This game has been in development for a LONG time. Now I know that games take time, especially with a small development team such as FSE, but then you have this. There are games out there that were made with smaller budgets, smaller teams, and even less of a community. So why hasn't FSE released much on BCOF besides some alpha screenshots of a few units and then some sliders we can use to edit the faces of the characters. Now, looking at a similar game made by members of the NW community, we can see that they appear to have accomplished far more, with even less. This game has received only a fraction of the donations/funding yet appears to be even stronger then BCOF. This simply doesn't add up. How can a smaller group have more material presentable with less time to work with and with less money. The facts are just not adding up FSE. The dev blogs that  we see are just teasers of scraps that are the equivalent of showing us one piece to a 2000 piece puzzle. It's interesting, but when do we get to see it together, or at least marginally completed so we can have an idea as to where this money is going. Now as of right now,
the latest Developer Blog, Number 25 on Face Customization, was released on August 12th of 2014. Prior to this, Developer Blog 24, the 2nd South Carolina String Band, was released on May 24th of 2014, and even further then that, on April 3rd of 2014, Sounds was released. Now, am I going to calculate that FSE is Illuminati with their dev blog releases? No. However, I will look at the mean average of releases and what we're seeing in terms of change. So from Blog 23 to 24 is 51 days. So for 51 days we essentially saw sounds, and then advanced sounds with music added. Then, with the help of DannyEle, we saw FSE release their face customization blog which came 80 days later. So in that time span we saw sounds go to some sliders. I suppose that this could be seen as progress, but when we look at the actual scale of BCOF devlopment times we're
greeted with the sad reality that this is actually very little. See, looking at the 1st Dev Blog (released on the 17th of November, 2012) we can see the basic planning of FSE in terms of the smaller things like networking. However, the span from Dev Blog 1 to 25 is 553 days. Five Fifty Three. That's a massive number, nearly two years and yet we've only seen a fraction of a game. It really makes you wonder about where this is really going and as to whether we will actually see the light of day for a project that so many have simply abandoned. I've seen friends come and go because FSE's timescale is worse then Valve. I would almost confidently say that FSE is using Valve time on an audience that is only a fraction of the size and that's being forced to play a game that hasn't seen an update in years. Seriously FSE, why do this to your users and fans? Can you at least make a cordial post explaining development? Can we see some sort of implementation of a timeline that's updated weekly or monthly. Example, "This week we've implemented sounds into the muskets and have made the appropriate files and folders to house them". Even the smallest light to keep your community out of the dark. This is not what the community deserves FSE, it really isn't.

Now before you say, but Will, you are just a filthy scrub who has said he's going to leave this community so many times, or that you're just a scrub that is a thing of the past, well you're wrong. There's a reason why I'm still here, and that's hope. Hope that one day this community will go back to the way it used to be, the way it was with dozens of huge regiments, a community that cared about one another and just wanted to help others, a place that helped breed one of the greatest communities I've ever know. It was just a different time back then and I really wish we could see that return with BCOF but it just seems like with the timeline that FSE is taking, there won't be anyone left to play BCOF.

FSE, NW has really changed my life, whether it be good or bad, I've met some of my best friends here, but there comes a time when even someone like me gives up hope on something they've advocated for so long. I hope you read this and can appreciate that I've at least put thought into this and just want to see better for this community. Hear me out FSE, hear me out and deliver.

Regards,
William

New thread as FSE has a potato running the forums.

Goal: Basically you post a word that is associated to the post above yours word, once you say a word then that word can't be used on that page, for instance:-

Fruit is to Apple as Violin is to String.

We'll restart off with what FSE does to it's users,

Pretty self explanatory, just curious as to what others about this seeing as most of the forums are EU and Sweden is the 1st European Union country to accept Palestine and as to whether this will stop violence in the Gaza strip and pave the way for peace over there.

Anyone else think that this will pave the way towards peace in the Israel-Egypt Region?
