North and South - 1.2




Some years have passed since the last patch in North and South. A long time this was considered as last patch and the community has slowly declined. Now, with the approval and support of Hinkel, we will continue to work on the Mod, which saw lately a grow again in players. The first patch, the patch 1.2, aims for bugfixes, playing- and administrating-improvements, and probably adding some new units of active playing regiments (communityinput). New gamemechanics are not planned at the moment. We will work closely with the community in the whole process.

Communitymeetings:

We aim to meet with the community several times, in planningphase, buildingphase and testingphase. I suggest to have a meeting for each of the armies (there are two at the moment, if I am not mistaken) and a meeting together with all the free regiments.

If someone provides good maps, we would gladly include them into patch. However there is no real need for it, as the game is a Multiplayer only game, and people can put any maps they want on their servers anyway. But sure, contributions are gladly taken.

Some base maps would be nice without the need of having to put them on servers. For myself and many of my regiment, we would love to see new uniforms. We hope to see an 8th Virginia unit with a nice confederate uniform. I personally really miss the Officer skins with the Frogcoat that hangs over like the old 69thNY officer from the old patch. It would be really nice to see new uniforms especially for officers and NCOs. Something which we wish we could see is an option to go more ranks than just "Sergeant". Some of my guys would like to go a Corporal in game or at times, go a SgtMaj class with the rank on the uniform in game. Kinda like how it is for officers you have the Captains, Lts and Cols.

If you could possibly add ranks ingame such as Corporal, Quartermaster Sergeant, etc. Also in order to get the community back on track I think new units and uniforms need to be added to address the needs of the current members of the community. Just my opinion but I am really glad to see this going again its gonna be great.

Yeah I personally agree with Malkolm, you should have a quick peek at the face customization slides. The current maps are fine and the classes might need to be tweaked a little.

There seems to be a misunderstanding, I probably wasnt clear enough in the first post.
We wont create new uniforms, we just offer to integrate uniforms, used by the community in personal client mods, and therefor adding new units for those existing models.
Any community submitted model will be evaluated and considered.

Something you should do if you can is fix the face customization bugs. The slides are all attached to the wrong facial features and a few of the little details like the cigars and beards etc don't register when you save your character.

Here is a list of some of the Bugs that have been reported to me over the years some I cannot confirm but might be worth checking so I shall contain them anyway.

- FI sword model is allegedly shorter then the actual reach of the weapon i have nothing but reports that this is the case but might be worth looking over some of the sword models as its something that keeps coming up about various swords in the mod

-Butterfly  Sgt cannot remount after dismounting

-Carbine sights are apparently off according to some Cav Regs

-Lances make horses rear up if they stab a horse e.g. a dismounted lancer stabs a horse and it stops no matter the speed. it would better if this was not the case as dismounted lancers shutdown Cav charges better then the Inf with bayonets

- Face Making bugs e.g. sometimes certain items just don't save

- shooting threw the walls of the white barn that you can enter (+ you can walk onto the roof from inside) and some of the standard none enterable town buildings can bee partially walked in so you can hide inside the walls might be worth looking at some of the building models walls to see if this can be fixed (if you need help finding the buildings I am referring to I am happy to show you)

-FI to get sharpshooter rifles and Prussian Jäger Officer to get a sword (balance out the Faction)

-Can Cav Sgts get Bandages and sword (Sword, Bandage, Ammo and Carbine) can fit

- Map improvements to all maps would be the addition of a bandage box in all spawns this wont be as important if Cav get bandages and a sword but still a useful thing DA maps have been edited to add them to some of the more popular ones and we have created a few new maps if you are interested in Jokfils maps I shall get in touch with him about it

That is normal to any unit in MB. Might be more off, if shooting down from horseback. Nothing we could do about.

Rearing is default off in NaS, like in NW. A quick test showed it is activated on your server, so probably someone enabled it with access to your serverfiles. Open modules.ini and change 'horses_rear_with_attack = 1' to 'horses_rear_with_attack = 0'

A list of the buildings would be nice to get. With shooting through, do you mean Arty, or normal bullets?

Sure, feel free to submit Maps. And dont worry about the bandages, cav will get swords and bandages working. We also might add an adminpanel option to autospawn a bandagechest at each battle spawnpoint.

Make the Musket sounds reenactor firing sounds, same with reloading.
Add More Regiments from the Minor States (Tennessee, Minnesota, Delaware)
Could there be a organizational tool such as the WoR Website for North and South?

I made a map A LONG time ago for Francis. I forgot what happened to it as I don't believe I have the files anymore. It had mixed reviews and was a map on the shorter side. It was modeled after a picture he sent me so I did it as accurately as possible and for my first completed map, I don't believe it was that horrid. If I find the files or pictures, I'll upload them here.

It would be nice if the regimental leaders/ army leaders were added into a chat on steam to talk through ideas and such. It would speed up the process so much more. It sucks that being the Colonel of the 8thVA, one of the oldest and biggest regiments in the mod ever, I try to get in contact with Hinkel or the devs, and my Steam friend requests are just ignored. We need to get in contact and it would be the appropriate thing to do being that currently 2 of 3 events hosted are by me, and the 8thVA is at the center for community leaders of the NA community. We should get in contact with as many relevant people as possible and get a chat going to discuss ideas and things to be fixed in a more civilized way.

We are all die hard N&S players here. The real issue that needs to be fixed is that damned reloading pistol glitch. Too many times have I been killed by the real menace of N&S. I think its time to band together.

So you are going to shoot your bullets till you are out. Then find a infantry musket, make sure you have cartridges for the pistol. Then drop the pistol, pick up the rifle, and pick up the pistol again

I can tell you, that nobody is part of the WoR developer team (so no influence here), who is working on that new patch :)
Its more an initiative right out of the NaS community and Lilja (Wuestenkrieger) is making it possible.

The Devteam of WoR has nothing to do with NaS. I dont know why this rumor is still present after all this years.

WoR is the best alternative to NaS though. People actually interested in the timeset and dedicated about it.

Thank you. I was now able to recreate the glitch.

This is an engine thing we cant change directly. The operation to spawn an item without ammunition actually spawns it with 1 less ammo, thats why you can glitch to get a pistol with 5 shots.

The only workaround which I could think of at the moment is the following:
When someone with a pistol picks a musket, he drops the musket instead of the pistol.
And when someone with a pistol picks a pistol, one pistol gets removed from the game.


We will discuss this with the community in the upcoming meetings.

You can, it's been done numerous times on MoR and MnG.

We all want to be able to control who comes to events and such, and have agreed on this via a teamspeak discussion. So many people on this mod are toxic and want to be in control, and see themselves as the reason this mod is alive again.
That sounds immensely ironic. Who in in the world is "we"? It's like you think it's okay to get rid of certain players just because you don't like them. If that goes through it'll suddenly sound like you want to be in control instead. You can't simply ban someone because they're toxic. Let server admins deal with that instead.

"We" is the 8th Vriginia, 7th new York, 55th IL, and a few other regiments of the North American community. And actually no, I wasn't the one we were going to put in charge of anything, it would be the leader of the 8thVA. People of the Mount and Blade, starting with Mroaine and clearly ending with you, take shots and blows at a discussion they have no actual knowledge of, hence why we would want to implement this. So we don't have to even deal with you toxic people any longer.

1. Please dont use this thread for personal arguments, insults and stuff. I will delete any further comment, which is about personal conflicts and not about the mod and the patch.

2. If you have problems with people, ban them from your servers/events if necessary, but there wont be global bans. Not only I wouldnt know who should decide on them, they also are practically impossible to enforce. Real trolls have multiple accounts. This subject is hereby closed.

3. Goomba, you were several times told to stay away from this sub-forum. Please follow.

4. This is a good point and will be added.
Admin tool have a TP for when admins are dead or in spectator so they don't need to be alive to TP

Also there will be separated meetings with each of the corps/armies. There are 3 at the moment (DA, I-Corps and NYB), if I am not mistaken (if there are more, let me know).

Reminder: There is also a groupchat about the patch in Steam. Add me to be added to the chat.

The meetings will be used to discuss planned features and to suggest new features. Keep in mind, that most planned features are suggestions on their own and can be discussed, changed or removed.

As far as the DA meeting goes, I think it should go through. For the NA with the I corps, it's not really a thing anymore with about 10 guys and the NYB is kind of in the same state at the moment. Most of the NA are independent or would rather work together as a group. I recommend not having a separate meeting for the I corps and NYB because it would just not go anywhere and you would be leaving out the whole NA community.

It is clarified in the post, that it is the GMT that is commonly used in the european nw community, which is not the real GMT (yes, we are special).
And for the americans I added the EST, so they are not confused.

First round of meetings over, here the outcome:

buck and ball will be handed over to all infantry unitsAgreed by all communitys
a small server only bugfix will be issued in a few weeks (and then later only one patch)Agreed by most communitys
no alignments for stats of classes (we will have a look into runaways and civilians anyway)           Agreed by all communitys
the pistol glitch workaround will be implementedAgreed by all communitys
pistols wont be nerfedNerfing them was suggested by one community, but declined by all other communitys


2 more things were suggested which will be included without further discussion:

- Bugfix for officersword display bug (when drawn the sheath gets bugged visually)
- we will display in the overlay of the admintool what kind of weapon someone wears (bajonetgun, buck and ball, or rifle)


1 more thing was requested in the last meeting and will be brought up in the second round of meetings, that will be held when the patch progressed further:

- Give Generals the same athletics like infantry units


A general information:
If you want maps to be included into the patch, feel free to send them via a personal message here in fse. When the time comes, I will check the maps and will try to include them.

I will update the first post the next few days (I have some fingers injured and typing is super annoying)

Around afternoon the small serverpatch (as wished) will be downloadable. The Patch has less than 1mb.
If you have an event tomorrow evening and want to use it already, please be prepared to put the patch on your server.

Unfortunatly only 2 things could be fixed on serverside, the rest hast to wait for the full patch in a few months:

A couple suggestions of my own:
-Give confederates more units with Harpers Ferry rifle/give federals more Springfield muskets/balance the guns more

iirc playing as confed infantry was suicide, either fed infantry shredded you to pieces before you got to stab them in the arses or artillery did it. Springfield musket is much worse than Harpers Ferry/Enfield P53 and thus should be balanced more; cavalry carabines should get increased accuracy but removed reloading while walking; cavalry sergeants should spawn without carbine but with bandage and sword (currently you choose between sword and a bandage); there should be more differences between light cavalry and dragoons, currently (I think) there are no differences except that heavy cavalry has broadsword instead of sabre. That should be it, good luck in resurrecting the mod guys, you sure will need it with the, well, dying game.

Almost all codeparts are done now. (Marked them green in first post)

I got a bunch of submission for models and stuff.
End of next month my now starting examphase is over, I will then review all submissions and start to implement them.

Small update:

- Another unit: '9th Massachusetts Infantry' will be added this weekend
- New Maps will be viewed and probably added this weekend
- I added a poll to the thread, if you want the patch beeing published without the following, or do you want us to wait, until Dazzer returns from absence (the stuff was submitted by him, but only the screenshots at the moments, the ressources not yet, and he seems to be away at the moment):

So people are aware there are a few units that can I presume be added that are already in the game files as they are in Commander battle but not in the Battle, TDM or Siege. the units had been only available to the regiments who owned them in a previous patch so most people wont have used them/ seen them with some being only in DA events or UA events

these units are 26th North Carolina Infantry, 15th Alabama Infantry, 72nd Pennssylvania Infranty, 20th Maine Infantry and 4th Michigin infantry

especially 72ndPA, 20thME, 26thNC, & 4thMI as they are very well known

Colonel Horse is so iconic I personally wouldn't like it changed. Everything else though including the locked units should be added since you can just add them anyway by editing your troops.txt.
