I would go scout, just because the idea of creeping around and letting your team know exactly where the enemy is sounds awesome to me and the idea of small groups of scouts ambushing much larger regiments with a volley or two and quickly withdrawing to the shadows.

Scouts would be cavalry but they have muskets to.
I think they might even have some kind of breechloader.
