Storia del Reggimento
Il 10th Lousiana fu un reggimento di fanteria dell'omonimo stato, operante con l'Armata della Virgina durante la guerra civile americana. Era noto come "La Legione straniera di Lee" dato che il reggimento era interamento composto da volontari provenienti da tutta Europa.
Al momento della sua fondazione, il 10th contava 953 uomini, tra ufficiali e soldati, provenienti dalla Grecia, Spagna,Italia, Austria,Norvegia,Francia,Russia, Portogallo,Irlanda,Scozia e Svizzera.
Il 10th Lousiana venne ingaggiato in numerose battaglie durante la sua operatività , tra le più importanti ci sono: la Battaglia di Chancellorsville, Antietam e Gettysburg. Nell'aprile del 1865 solo pochi uomini rimasero in vita ad assistere alla resa di Lee all'Appomattox Courthouse.
History of the Regiment
The 10th Louisiana Infantry Regiment was a Louisiana infantry unit of the Confederate States of America that operated with the Army of Northern Virginia of the American Civil War. It was known as Lee's Foreign Legion due to the large numbers of foreign-born troops.
The Regiment was organized at Camp Moore, La. in July of 1861. It had a complement of 953, Officers and men, and was made up of men from Italy, Spain, France, Greece, Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Austria, Russia, Portugal and Switzerland.
The 10th Louisiana fought in many engagements of the Army of the Northern Virginia from the Battle of Chancellorsville to Appomattox Courthouse. On April 9, 1865, only 4 officers and 13 men surrendered after the defeat of General's Lee troops.
