So Today Was My First North And South Event

North And South
So today was my first North and South line battle and I thought I should share it.
Some facts: I was playing under the name 45thNY Hans"something" (forgot the rest),
we were consisted of 7 guys (5 from the Nr20 including myself) on the union team, the server was the 7thTN, the entire event (of about 125 people) I was numero uno on the leader-boards. We played as riflemen

First Map:

First round: Our first encounter with the enemy was us going over hill and taking out a group of about 15 arty. Surprisingly, the butt of our rifles were pretty effective :D but we also shot a few. After we took out the arty we started taking shots at an enemy encampment, we killed 1-2 but ourselves lost about 5 guys. As I was the second in command I quickly escorted myself and the last guy out of there to take some shots at the oncoming 1stCI (or whatever their NS name is), to my amusement the person I shot was Kershaw and my other guy shot another high ranking officer. Sadly however, the 1stCI got its revenge fairly quickly and took us both out with 2 well placed bullets to the face.

Next round: This round was pretty slow, not much happened. We got into some melee and again got some decent kills but really not much to share.

Third round: I don't remember this one D:

Next Map:

First Round: We spawned on a large hill and from there went down to meet the enemy. Our first encounter was the enemy arty whom we charged, our line of 7 was able to take out about 15 before everyone else but me died :(. I joined in with a few other lines who slowly headed up to face the enemy (which had taken our spawn hill!), the sappers set up some defenses and our lines went to work. Being the poor shot in NS that I am, I wasn't able to hit anything (they were so far away they all looked like ants on a hill). Slowly but surely the lines started pushing up, there were some rocks and some riflemen went to hide behind those and take some pot shots. Alas, victory at this point seemed impossible as we only had 15 against their 25 or so. They wore away at our forces with continues fire from atop the hill until we were down to about 5 men, where they charged down and slaughtered the remainders. I died as someone shot me during the charge down the hill :'(. Another confederate victory.

Second round: We had learned that hill camping was going to be the prevalent strategy here, so we just sat on our hill the whole round in a covered artillery position. Eventually the enemy charged the position on all flanks, but we managed to hold them off at the top of the hill. Through much bloodshed and lots of meleeing we pulled off a Union victory!

Third round: Essentially the same as the second round except we lost, more hill camping. Eventually our position on the hill was flanked on all sides, and we lost. (but my third round score was a decent 18-3, so that was good)

My impressions:
Great mod, really didn't realize how much fun it is until I played in an actual event. The way it's played is almost completely different from NW, as it all seems more fast paced and dangerous. The old melee is wonderful (as it allowed me to rack up kills like crazy). The shooting is superb, I'm just in love with the ability to shoot at something AND ACTUALLY HAVE IT HIT THEM. I love the textures, I love the sounds, it's all just great. My only complaint would be that the hit-boxes are a bit messed up, but I hear a patch is soon to be on its way. Another aspect of the game I love was that the line battle allowed firing on the charge, which makes everything that much more exciting and chaotic, it almost feels like you're in a real battle! I enjoyed not leading for once (as it does get old, and being a ranker is fun :D). All in all, a very well polished mod that's extremely enjoyable to play.

This happened at the only N&S lb I've attended. Wish my regiment was more interested in it. :-\

Nominee - Rogov
Medal - Lucky Bastard

During today's rather unfortunate North and South linebattle, Rogov was crouching down AFK like the Calgarian scum he is. The line decided that Rogov should be wiped off the face of the Earth. So Patriot ordered said fellow to be "relieved of duty". As Patriot put his revolver to Rogov's head however, a 13te rambo attacked and slaughtered all of us, save for Rogov.

Lucky bastard indeed!

When I seen this my jaw dropped with amazement. I would like to congratulate you LedZepp on your first meaningful and interesting post! This would probably get more attention posted in the N&S board though :P
