[RGL7] Regimental Showcases - The Underdogs [Div B]
« on: May 16, 2020, 09:29:51 pm »

The Regimental Groupfighting League Season 7 has just started, with a couple of matches having already been played earlier this week. As the competition is planned to last over the next two months and a half, we felt this was the right opportunity to showcase our twenty participants, take a short look at their history and achievements and discuss their chances in their respective divisions. For some of the oldest and most successful competitive regiments, they might even get their own storyline article, but that’s a subject to be discussed in the upcoming weeks. We will also try to provide the community with as many interviews as possible, as it is best to hear directly from the captains and players themselves.

With the RGL7 being divided into two divisions, in a similar fashion to season 4, regiments should be facing opponents of arguably similar strengths or mindset. With that being said, even inside each division, the skill-gap can be quite consequent and that is why our series of showcases will be divided into three categories: The underdogs, the mid-tier and the favourites.

- Place Holder Interview | TBA (Coming soon)

- Division B | The Underdogs (Released)
- Division A | The Underdogs (Coming soon)

- To be added (Coming up soon)

Each division will be having a category of its own and today, we will be starting with the underdogs from Division B: The 19th Yorkshire Regiment of Foot, the 5e Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne & the 64. Regimento De Galicia.

Born out of a rebellion against an autocratic regiment, the 19th is the antithesis of many contemporary regiments. Determined to avoid the same mistakes as the autocrats it threw off, the 19th has for 3 years focused on community building: doing away with archaic systems such as compulsory attendance, the prohibition of double regging, banned global chat to name but a few. This casual doctrine has seen the 19th punished and lambasted by others, being banned from events and branded as a troll regiment in some instances. Drawing 50+ players to events, and having 40 people on teamspeak every day, the 19th has one of the most active communities of any regiment in NW. The core members of the 19th, friends since the days of Mount and Musket 3 have stayed as 1 group for 9 long years, originally called the 54e. Always loyal, never losing hope, even when reduced to 2 attendance in line battles in times long since passed - the 19th bond is unbreakable - both in old members and new.

Under the steady guidance of El Presidente and Kieran, the 19th has extended its influence to every corner of NW. Owning or having some kind of commanding influence over a plethora of public servers such as NRP and Jailbreak, the 19th also hosts two extremely successful weekend events, regularly maxing the 200 marks. Not traditionally being a competitive regiment however, the 19th will definitely have a hard time standing out in Division B, with several established regiments proving much more skilled on paper. Their performance in the Regimental Melee Tournament hosted earlier last month definitely showed that despite the unquestionable experience of many of its members, the 19th isn't quite ready yet to challenge many opponents in a melee-orientated format. However, powered by their recent lower-bracket victory in the 2v2 linebattle competition (that they won alongside the 16th), Presidente and his men could yet prove a tough challenge to handle for anyone too quick to underestimate them. Whatever the future may hold, the White Rose of Yorkshire may yet be destined to fly in every corner of Warband and, in time, Bannerlord.

Though very discreet on the international scene, the 5e Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne has, in reality, four strong years of in-game history. However, filled by more downs than ups, its path within our community can be summed up in the form of one chaotic roller coaster which saw Napoléon and his men go from line to lights, from being part of several large structures to enjoying their first step as an independent regiment. The uniqueness of the 5e probably lays in their commendable and almost unbreakable faith in that project of their own. Facing numerous break-ups, disbands and pauses, reduced to an active roster of no more than 7 members, the 5e and its members should have faced the same end as many other regiments before them, eventually feeding the ranks of stronger, more established regiments. But they didn't. Instead, the 5e was revitalised with a new influx of members, and learning from their past mistakes managed to stay on course, against many expectations.

Playing its first Regimental Groupfighting League in the regiment's history, there is no denying that the task ahead of the 5e is immense. Mostly focused on trying to keep the regiment healthy and active rather than craving for trophies, its leadership never really managed to find a real place for competitiveness and while being able to count on a couple of very skilled members, most of the 5e members will also get to experience their first real competitive league on Napoleonic Wars. It won't be their first competitive experience as a group however as the 5e was seen - as with many other regiments in the RGL - partaking in the Regimental Melee Tournament earlier this month. Even though the Frenchies did not manage to make it out of the groups, their results against the 10th and 2ndHess (a 4-5 lost against both) show that the 5e can still very much prove themselves to be a potent force. Despite entering Division B as one of the heavy underdogs, this competition could definitely strengthen the regiment as a whole providing Napoleon and his men manage to hold their own against a couple of their opponents.

vs 19th - Opponent of an arguable similar strength + spanish rivalry

Over the years, the Spanish community has been very scattered and though many regiments were created, the idea of making a competitively-oriented Spanish structure was never considered. In that regards, the birth of the 27th Regiment of Ultonia was the first real attempt at putting the Spanish community on the regimental competitive map. Lead by Grela, the 27th could count on many top players within the Spanish community such as Marquez, Alatriste, Mr T, Padawan and many other players, and definitely had its chance at building real ambitions within the European competitive scene. However, as it is often the case with competitive regiments regrouping only one nationality under their banners, the challenge that represents the European powerhouses can prove a tough one to handle and the 27th eventually broke-up after a while, with Grela continuing under a different name, the 1st Batallon Galicia. The 1erBG attended several international competitions such as NWL and RGL in which they achieved decent results but never managed to truly contend with the best regiments of the scene.

With time, the interest with the regiment started to decline and fewer people felt the desire to attend events. Grela opted for yet another re-brand which is where the regiment currently stands as of today, proudly wearing the 64Reg tag. This time, however, they seem to have found a healthier balance between competitive and casual which is often key in surviving over time. In the RMT, they were placed in a really tough group which left them pretty much no hope to access the final stage of the tournament and coming into the Division B of the RGL, the challenge will be equally harder as the 64Reg cannot solely expect on their most experienced players to carry them through this event. In a 12v12 format, the core of the regiment will have to step it up if they intend to beat a couple of selected opponents (such as the 19th and the 5e for instance) while also proving a worthy foe against stronger regiments. Only through collective strength and improved cohesion can the 64Reg expect to exceed expectations in this RGL but regardless what results they achieve, the 64Reg can definitely be proud of representing the Spanish community at an international level.

There we go! We got very late to start this but the first batch of showcases is finally here. The whole hype content aspect is really important for us in this RGL as we feel it contributes to creating an enjoyable competition same as many other features in the tournament. Since we sort of missed the timing window where a trailer would have really taken its full effect, we figured out there was still a lot of other (written) contents we could provide to our participants.

A huge thanks to Padawan for helping me write this first past of the Regimental Showcases, and to Presidente and Grela for providing us with many missing pieces of information about their respective regiment. Presidente's description, in particular, was so well-written that we figured out we couldn't come up with anything better and re-used several parts of his text for the 19th showcase. We hope other regiment members will be as excited reading these that they are waiting for their own regimental showcases.

Stay tuned cause a lot more is coming your way.
