Historia  Continuum

Historia Continuum is a project Tiberias and I started at the end of 2019. With the announcement of Bannelord EA set to March 2020, we felt like it was the right timing to compile as much information within one thread and through it, allow people to look back at some of Napoleonic War most iconic moments. However, overwhelmed by the amount of work the project represented, we took a break from it and it's only today that as a Christmas gift to one of the best person I have met on this game (and also to not let what we had already done go to waste), that I decided to post the years we had finished. In its early development, this thread will be dedicated to delivering a list of all the Napoleonic Wars competitive events ever played since the dawn of the DLC, up to that very day. It is aimed at being a tribute to the different generation of players which contributed to developing our scene, delivering the most accurate picture possible of different teams, regiments and players' performances over the years. With time, we might consider looking at other aspects of the community worth being remembered, but our primary focus at first will be solely on the competitive side of things. In the post just below, you will be able to find detailed information on the general advancement of this project and the people behind it.

Historia Continuum will not feature any ratings, as we aim at delivering the least opinionated work possible. With that being said, while we intend to provide information based on facts, this project essentially consists of hours of data gathering and therefore, we cannot assure you that every single piece of information you will find on here is correct. A mistake could easily have slipped through or the source of information itself could be wrong, so we count on the community to help us fix everything which needs to be.

This will probably always remain a work in progress, as the amount of information which can be added to such a thread is pretty much limitless. Whenever Tiberias and I have time, we will continue adding new features and categories to the thread in order for it to be the most complete and detailed possible.

Meet  the archivists

Tibérias Spoiler Tibérias is probably the best incarnation of a player who made the transition between the very first generation of players who switched from Mount & Musket to Napoleonic Wars and the last wave of competitive players who continue to keep the game active to this day. He was amongst the very few players who have been extremely dominant in the most competitive era of Napoleonic Wars and was named as one of the greatest of all time by countless other top players. But more than anything else, Tiberias shared a true and honest passion for Napoleonic War, a passion which made him stream & records hundred of different matches, explain game concepts and melee mechanisms to others throughout dozen hours of training sessions and be involved as a community member for 8 years straight. Those who got to know him personally will likely remember a discrete character, who never took more room than he required and always let his in-game performances make a statement for him. But they will also remember a loyal friend who, although was a demanding teammate, was as respected by his peers for his skill, that he was for his personality. I could not think of a single better person than Tibérias for conducting this project and it is with the utmost feeling of pride that I present this shared work with him, to the community. [close]

Groupfighting

Regular Format

The idea of ‘groupfighting’, as we know it, takes its roots in Mount & Musket, early 2012. The first organiser of a groupfighting tournament, Hekko, defined it at the time as a way of 'having a 'fair' group fight: a group fight where you know and trust your allies and where the starting point for both teams is the same', in contrast to the single line vs single line battles - which used to be the only proper competitive environment available back then. On top of focusing solely on the melee abilities of its participants, the groupfighting tournaments also offered a way for players to compete alongside people who were not necessarily in their regiments, and thus, created more diversity among the community while continuing to develop itself throughout the years. Melee orientated servers were born (known today as Groupfighting_Servers) to allow the most active and competitive players to train themselves on a regular basis, in an environment where they would not be at risk of receiving a bullet between the eyes. Groupfighting teams were created to offer a structure and an organised way to prepare with one’s teammates for upcoming groupfighting events and, more generally speaking, the number of players fighting in the arena - fixed in the beginning to 5v5 - evolved between the events, up to 10v10. The legacy Hekko, with the support of his frequent co-host, Evanovic, had created at the very early stage of Napoleonic Wars was carried on by other organisers, who not only continued the tradition established years before them, but also redefined the boundaries of the genre, giving the groupfighting format even more importance and prestige than before. In later years of the NW competitive scene, groupfighting teams became as important as regiments (to the great displeasure of certain people) and were granted their own board by the FSE administration team (mostly thanks to Drake's initiative). Thus, it became common knowledge that the best way to observe the top players of the community fighting for glory was to attend a groupfighting tournament. The meta evolved, legacies were sometimes created and ended on the very same day, but there is no denying that what started as a way to provide an enjoyable environment for players more inclined towards the melee side of the game, became one of NW's most popular asset - especially within the competitive scene.

On this page, you will find a comprehensive report of all groupfighing tournaments played on Napoleonic Wars, with a trivia and medals count for each year. The four groupfighting tournaments played on Mount & Musket will also be featured at some point to give as much background information as possible to the readers, such as where the idea came from and which were the first teams fighting and these events. The trivia and medals count for 2012, however, will only take into account NW tournaments. Groupfighting leagues will also be featured on this thread but on a separate section for each year, as they do not represent the same amount of work from the administration nor the same level of dedication from the players, unlike most of the one-night groupfighting tournaments. At the end of this page and when we will have finished it, you will be able to find a global trivia and medal counts accounting for all groupfighting tournaments and leagues, from 2012 to 2020. Once a year has been concluded, we will add the results for the groupfighting tournaments on this thread, just below the previous year, and add the new data in the global statistics and trivia.

The criteria to be featured on this page are the following:

- The event must have had an FSE and/or TW page still active.
- The event's format must have been a minimum of 5 versus 5 players.
- The event must have been a public tournament.
- The event must have been concluded.
