Regiments Geschichte
Augustus Reichard wurde am 9. April 1820 in Munden (Hannover) geboren. Er ging als junger Mann nach New Orleans, vielleicht 20. Fünf Jahre später ist auch als Ausgangspunkt möglich; August Reichard, 25 Jahre alt, kam am 7. Januar 1845 per Schiff aus Bremen in New Orleans an. Im Alter von 29 Jahren hatte er die US-Amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft erhalten.
Er trat als Konsul zurück und versuchte, die deutschen Milizregimenter zu Beginn des Bürgerkriegs zu einem einzigen deutschen Regiment zusammenzufassen. Aber die Regierung wünschte sich kein größeres deutsches Bündnis/Bond in der Konföderation. Sie trauten den Deutschen im Süden wegen der Zwischenfälle in Missouri nicht. Für eine gewisse Zeit gab es sogar Vorbehalte gegen Waffenlieferungen an die Deutschen. Reichard gelang es, ein deutsches Bataillon zu gründen, das aus folgenden Regimentern bestand: Steuben (Name) Garde, Hauptmann Kehrwald, Tuner-Garde, Hauptmann Baehncke, Reichardschütze, Hauptmann Müller, Florance-Garde, Hauptmann Brummerstaedt. Dieses deutsche Bataillon wurde mit vier irischen Regimentern als 20. Louisiana-Freiwilligenregiment aufgestellt. Reichard wurde Oberst davon. Er stach besonders in den Schlachten von Shiloh, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Atlanta und Nashville hervor.
In Shiloh verlor dieses Regiment eine schreckliche Anzahl von Männern. Die Reichard-Schützen wurden von 72 Mann auf 33 Mann reduziert und die anderen Regimenter litten so sehr, dass das 20. Louisiana-Regiment mit dem 13. Louisiana-Regiment vereinigt werden musste.
Gründung in Battle Cry of Freedom das Regiment Gründete sich am 21.03.2022 aus ein dutzend NW und Ehemaligen NW Spielern.
